Overreaction in banning this guy?

Whatever you use, don’t forget to sterilize it! I find that a cigarette lighter works well for this purpose.

While previewing, I noticed that you got it out. If you didn’t sterlize it, I’d put some antibiotic stuff on it. Don’t forget that thousands of children may be watching and trying to emulate you. For heaven’s sake, Scylla, Think of the Children!

Fenris

That’s it? You’re picking on an ironic comment made in jest?

Nothing to say about the counter-arguments put to you?

Pathetic does indeed sum it up quite nicely

I most emphatically disagree. My son thought that a cigarette lighter would ‘sterilize’ the needle that he used to pierce his eyebrow. When his eye swelled shut he found out differently. (and I agree w/** kabbes** assesment of the differences in the two threads, had composed a response that was similar in nature)

A couple of points Cnote, a hijack doesn’t automatically kill a thread unless the thread was already on it’s last breath. Also, as I said before, it isn’t always what you say that gets a point across.

Is it just me or does anyone else think splinters hurt soooooo good when they slide out?

Definitely not just you - it goes a long way towards undoing the irritation of getting one.

Actually many of us did explain at length why we thought the OP is ridiculous. Feel free to respond to my post or any other post made against the OP.

I hate to use a tennis analogy but the ball’s in your court.

I don’t get it. Do you use the lighter to sterilize the needle to to burn out the splinter? I think I would rather have a sliver than a burn.

You did? Where would that post be, Alphagene?

Because I don’t see where you’re saying much of anything in this thread, up until this point, and this thread is where I’m having a problem with the tennis hijack coming up again.

If that’s what’s going to happen whenever someone has a question on moderator actions being discussed around here, than I think it’s lame.

If your asking me whether or not closing the thread mentioned in this thread is right or wrong, than my opinion is that I don’t have a problem with it.

What I do have a problem with is dismissing the question the way Gary and the others did.

And if you can spot this in between the splinter posts, I’d have to say I think the flat out dismissal is happening again in this thread, where, incidentally, I originally brought up my having a problem with it.

I forgot to sterilize, but I did suck on my finger after I got the splinter out.

That should be good enough.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh, I believe that would be right here, Chris:

That was back on page one. But Hell, even if Alpha hadn’t said anything himself, the fact remains that you’re choosing your battles in this thread. You still haven’t addressed the analogies put forth by both Scylla and myself, and they WERE relevant to the OP. Splinter comments or not, people are raising issues in their posts, and you seem to be ignoring a large number of them.

You know what, I take that back.

I’m not sure I agree or disagree with what happened. What would have been nice would have been reading the different ideas people had or whether it was right or wrong, just or unjust, and, specifically, why that is, and then making the call. Instead, because of a select few, the discussion has turned to an issue of splinters.

Isn’t it a moot point anyway, because that poster wasn’t banned? Since the factual point that led to the creation of this thread was found false, why not talk about tennis?

And was I the only one suprised to see how Henin came back after the rain delay to win the women’s semis like that? At the beginning, Capriati was wiping the floor with her. I know, it probably was the blister that was throwing off Henin’s game, but still…

I flat out missed that Jester, no two ways about it.

In response to Scylla’s analogy, which is,

Did it occur to you that some of the people at that table wanted to be there and were curious about what he had to say?

I mean, that guys table isn’t the only one in the restaurant. Go find a different one if the discussion at this one is so bothersome to you.

Boo-Fucking Hoo

Then respond to the serious points raised. This whining is just like the whining about Manny’s nonbanning of whoever.

This hijack is not preventing the other discussion at all. What’s preventing the other discussion from happening is that no one else seems to be posting about it. Hmm?? I’ve been in several GD threads where 2 or 3 simultaneous tangents seem to go on for a while. Since the OP, we had a couple of folks posting directly OT, but disagreeing with the OP, then came the tennis stuff. Since then, it’s been a back and forth volleys of tennis/splinter vs. your problem with the tennis/splinter hijack. Seems to me that if anyone still wanted to post an opinion on the OP they could.

Cnote:

How about we back up and calm down?

Seeing as this is actually a nonbanning and not an actual banning, can you specifically restate the complaint so that we may respond to it?
(Actually, it ain’t your dinner party Cnote,)

If anyone really cares about the issue raised in the OP, they could chime in anytime. Several people seem to have opened a thread about a banning, saw the OP’s little whine and the several posts of tennis and splinters, and decided to not bother addressing the OP, for whatever reasons. No one has been forcefully made to ignore the OP. But no one seems to want to talk about it.

Sorry we haven’t fulfilled your need to rehash the same vitriol, competing analogies, etc. from the Silo thread and skipped straight to the tennis hijack, but no one seems to want to discuss the OP anymore. They really just don’t care. If anyone wants to protest Manny’s actions, the thread is right here for them to do so. If they’re scared of a bunch of people discussing Scylla’s splinter, that’s their own damn problem.

Oh, and I think the flame is used to sterilize the needle, after which it is allowed to cool before being used.

I give up. This is really a bitch arguing my points in-between splinter posts.

I’ve had a chance to fully read Alphagene’s post back on page one. It makes sense, I guess.

All I was looking for was some kind of serious response.

The irony of this thing is that had the tennis/splinter thing not happened, I probably would have read that line and left it at that.

But since the blatant hijack came up, I missed it in my anger. I thought, as has become the case, that this would once again turn into a BS thread.

Except, of course, for the last 10 posts or so, all of which have been focused on the issue that you raised. You got what you wanted, Chris: serious discussion of your issue. If you’re backing out now, claiming that there are “no serious posts” in the thread, then it seems a bit like you know you’re beaten, and don’t want to admit it.

Well, I for one am horrified that Doctor Goo Fee has been banned! He is obviously a man of rare taste and breeding, and all our lives will be as farts in the wind without him. Really, I think banning him was WAY over the line! How much more SHIT will th’ People TAKE? I’m going to hold my breath until full posting privileges are restored to him. Who’s with me?
