Owners of old dogs: assemble!

Poor ol’ dawg, no wonder he was cranky.

As ever -

So sad:(

I have two 14-year-old Shiba Inus, Kirin and Raven.

Raven has some significant skin problems caused by an autoimmune issue, and is going blind and deaf. No matter what the vet thinks is supposed to work, ONLY steroids work. But overall she’s doing OK.

Kirin is doing better. She will get seasonal allergies and right now she’s got an ear infection because of it. She popped a knee ligament a few years back but eventually recovered fully.

Neither is very fond of their new younger brother.

For pills, I wrap them in Kraft Singles. I’ve tried other brands of sliced American cheese, but only Kraft squishes together without sticking to my fingers and everything else.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about your pupper, MoonMoon, that’s so sad. :frowning: Cancer sucks mightily.

And Papi died at home with me, just after I typed my post. She felt well enough to eat some deli ham, then just passed.

StG

Oh no, StGermain, I’m so sorry! :frowning:

This thread has turned very sad all of a sudden. I’m sorry for your loss as well, StGermain, but glad it was peaceful with no trip to the vet required. :frowning:

I recently adopted three old(er) dogs. This is the video the shelter made for them:

Amy, the white Chihuahua is seven. Nelly, the tan Chihuahua and Skippy, the mini pinscher are ten years old.

I’ve never had a dog before and I wasn’t planning to get a pet (let alone three!) - I only accompanied my brother to the shelter to help him take his newly adopted cat home.
We walked into the shelter and there was Amy - all 2.5 kilogram of her, barking her head off at me. It was live at first sight. Then I found out that it wasn’t just Amy, but her two friends as well: they had been living together before and the shelter would not have separated them.

I took my time to get to know them and thought long and hard about adopting a pack of dogs, but in the end it was clear that we simply belonged together.
They have been living with me for two months now and they are the best that could have happened to me. I’m so happy to have them!

So far they are healthy, happy, active dogs and I know that Chihuahuas can get pretty old. But the thought of one day losing one of them is heartbreaking for me even now… .

I’m so sorry about Papi and Captain. What a sad shock for you both.
