Okay. The night before the first Tuesday in November (well, Oz time it is, anyway).

I’ve got $10 each way on Big Pat in the big race tomorrow. No science behind the pick; it’s just a hunch thing. Y’see, they train Big Pat by running him up hills (the whole endurance thing), which is how they used to train Phar Lap and look how _he_ ended up.

So who’s your pick in the Cup?

An explanation for non-Australian Dopers: the Melbourne Cup is run every year on the first Tuesday in November. At 3.10 our time, the entire country will stop dead to watch a bunch of horses run around a race track.

Yes, it’s true, we run horse races first Tuesday in November - but the US elects their politicians : I know which odds I’d rather back (and the goddamn Kiwi horses win most times anyway). 😃
