[It sounded like a scene from a horror movie. A middle schooler comes home from playing basketball and finds his parents’ bodies. Both are dead, both mutilated by a chainsaw.](http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20150402_Autopsy_report_awaited_in_chainsaw_deaths.html) tl/dr version: Recently divorced couple. Dad chokes, stabs, & chainsaws Mom to death, then commits suicide with same chainsaw. 8th grade son comes home to find their bodies. There are also six & third grade brothers. What’d you leave behind? Three orphans. One who, along with PD & EMS responders, will almost certainly be screwed up by what they saw. (Unfortunately, I know this from experience, & no, I will **not** elaborate). I don’t understand how the love for your three children can be less than the hatred for your ex. There is not a level of Hell deep enough for you! ---

I really hope they’re getting help and have enough (other) family around. ---

Every indication in the story is that he was a sane, normal guy, and there is no history of mental illness at all. I understand the human need somehow explain away something like this as “insane”, but human history is replete with examples of just how horrible sane, rational human beings can be. I don’t think assuming some kind of insanity will help. ---

I cannot imagine what sort of frame of reference would lead to killing yourself with a chainsaw. ---
