PA Gov Corbett bringing lawsuit against NCAA over Penn State/Sandusky ruling

There are other sports organizations http://www.naia.org/ and you would be hard-pressed to argue that participating in intercollegiate sports is somehow an inviolable right anyway.

This lawsuit is pandering to cretins who want the whole state to be run by Paterno’s ghost, when having the whole state run by Paterno is what allowed this situation to get to where it did in the first place. Pennsylvania has a long tradition of politicians campaigning on football-related issues. It reflects very poorly on the intelligence of the electorate.

Right, but they’re not exactly competitors to the NCAA. Penn State’s football coaches makes more than the entire NAIA budget.

The NCAA is a club and to all intents and purposes they can exclude whoever they want for any reason. Having a school and a program that’s perceived (rightly or wrongly) to be shady is bad for their image. There’s no right for any university to be in the NCAA. Tough shit if a school places all its eggs in the athletic basket and that basket is ruined.
