Padiddle!

I grew up in Philly, and it was “Padoodle”. Somehow from Harrisburgh to Philly, a vowel transformed.

And yep, I’d go rooting around for a kiss from my dear heart if I called it first- or vice versa, if she did. Kind of lent a very gently romantic air to a normal boring thing you see. I loved it. I said it once after I got married, and my wife ( A Pittsburgher ) looked at my like I had two heads. I do, but I still took umbrage.

Cartooniverse

OK, I now understand a commercial that I’ve found particularly annoying. It’s for a local (Boston) bank, and it shows two kids riding in the back of a car, calling out “I see one” and hitting each other. I now realize that it’s a game of “padiddle”, except they don’t say “padiddle” or any other nonsense word. The brother and sister just hit each other. (They’re looking at free ATMs).
