I’ve noticed this problem for the last couple days now. I can see everything on the page, but the status bar on the bottom is still trying to load. This happens with every page I try to view here. Everything loads properly at every other site I’ve visited though.

I guess it’s not really so much a problem as an annoyance. Is anybody else having a similar problem? (Using Firefox 1.0.3)

I’ve seen the same thing (IE 6.0). Not a problem with viewing, but things get seriously slow when I’m trying to post.

Not sure why this is happening, but if I had to hazard a guess, it’s because of the great demand that has been placed on the server of late . . . For example . . . lemme see . . . as of this moment there’s 728 Users Online (447 members and 281 guests) . . . that’s a lot of connections and a lot of stuff going on at one time, more than the server can handle.

We’re getting some of the usual complaints that come with the server being overtaxed as well, so not totally rendering pages is probably yet another manifestation of too much demand and too little supply.

I’ve been getting something similar in Opera 6; haven’t had chance to try other browsers. The page will partly load, then go blank and start over, then go blank and start over . . . three times seems to be the charm. Other sites load fine.

Never had anything like this before.

Thanks for starting this thread **Chaos** , I have been meaning to report it as well. I have had the same problem using Opera 6.0, but not IE 6.0. Also, I do not have the problem running on my laptop running Opera 8.0. I started noticing the problem this weekend.

Been getting similar behavior on Mozilla 1.7.3:

Any page I bring up on this site over the last few days, the status bar sits on not quite complete for at least 10 seconds (really haven’t timed it) then pops over to complete and goes away.

Yeah, we had a thread in the GQ forum on this. Almost everyone running FF is getting this, and it started a couple of weeks ago, as suddenly as switching on a light. Something has been changed or updated on the site, and I do not get it on other chat boards using the same BBS software.

The page load all except the last tiniest bit, according to the FF load bar, and sits there for like 30 or 60 seconds. If you scroll anywhere in that time then when the last bit comes down the page flicks back to where it was, very annoying.

My bet is it is due to an attempt to fix the problem SDMB had with FF where when you went into a thread then back to the list of threads you always went to the top of the list. Seems to me that problem was fixed at the same time this one came on.

This problem has become extremely annoying (and doubly so considering most of us are actually paying to use the board) and it doesn’t matter what time of day it is either.

So is anything being done to find and correct the problem or to take some of the load off of the server?

BTW, your server (in addition to the aforementioned problems) clock once again seems to be _ **falling behind the times** _ (currently about 5 minutes).

I will report all these complaints to Jerry.

Please understand that he has his hands quite full handling subscription problems right this second. Also please to understand that keeping the server clock correct has never been a high item on the “to-do” list.

Were the gzip settings changed recently?

Looks like both Opera and IE start loading the page, but are not satisfied that they got all of the data. After 15 seconds, the server times-out the HTTP connection. Opera takes that as a challenge and start to reload the page again. IE is satisfied with what it has.

[Here](http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs.php?do=view&bugid=3317) is a page on the vBulletin forums that discuss this exact symptom using vBulletin 3.0.7 and Opera 7.

The Content-Length header in the HTTP packet indicates the uncompressed size, but the actual payload is compressed. The link above suggests that Opera incorrectly assumes that the Content-Length should be the compressed size.

Actually, I lied: it was vBulletin version 3.0.3.

Also, upgrading Opera works around the problem.

Thanks, Mike, we appreciate the information.

We’re currently running vB 3.0.7, which is as updated as it gets. We do expect to find some bu–um, undocumented features, before it’s all said and done.

Safari’s been doing it too. and occasionally the page appears to be done, but when I try to go someotherwhere, I get an error box saying (Safari) " I’m going as fast as it can, I’m not a magician, ya know!"

</div>

Well it’s still happening. I’m certain it’s not to do with server busy-ness as it never changes no matter what time of day or night. I wonder if Jerry has got anywhere with his investigations?

Interesting about the Opera upgrade fixing it for one person, has anyone checked on the Mozilla forums for any reports of it over there?

Any luck with this problem? Upgrading fixed the constant-reloads, but there is still the 15 second timeout before a page is done loading – kind of a pain for submitting posts after a preview.

Aha, so upgrading Opera didn’t fix the problem. Interesting that it happens with at least two different browsers, and still apparently only on this board as far as I know.

Can anyone confirm this for sure, on another board with vBulletin Version 3.0.7 ?

From my perspective, he did indeed.

Now all I have to do is wait till the prevailing wind is such that the smoke from the burnt offerings wafts in JtTG’s direction. . . .
