Palin says Obama would kill her baby

So, you think that Palin is talking about “death panels” but doesn’t actually think that anyone would die because of it?

I agree that “death squads” is not the right term. “Death squad” implies armed men putting little Trig up against a wall and shooting him. A death panel who decides that he is unworthy of health care would be killing him just the same, though it would take longer and cause more suffering. Palin is saying that she thinks that Obama’s health care plan would deny her child health care and allow him to die from that neglect. It’s not the same as “death squads,” but the outcome would be, if anything, more inhumane.

So, cricetus, care to stop using the term “death squads” and use Palin’s term “death panel”? It’s more accurate and is just as serious an accusation she’s leveling.

jsgoddess, you are better than this. I will give you a pass this time.

No, I’m not. Answer the question.

She used the term “death panel.” You seem to be saying that cricetus is exaggerating when he says that Palin is saying there would be death involved with the judgment of “whether they are worthy of health care.”

She used death panels. What is your read on how she meant that if no death is involved? Who is dying? Why are they dying? Where is the death?

Rand Rover’s criticisms are just thread shitting. Nobody can seriously refute that my reading is exactly the one Palin intended. You don’t casually throw the specter of babies in front of death panels because you want to have a thoughtful discussion about the finer details of a piece of policy. And even if we just move past this obnoxious harping about the wording of the OP, there are three indefensible and obvious lies Palin has told:

  1. That any baby (or indeed, any human being) will be judged on their “usefulness.”
  2. That any baby (or indeed, any human being) will be completely denied health care.
  3. That there is anything remotely resembling an entity that could reasonably be nicknamed a “death panel.”

All lies. Not political opinions, but lies. That’s what this thread is about.

And I stand by my title. While it’s not an exact representation of Palin’s text, it is the image she created, and what she wanted us to see.

I do think your reading is the one Palin intended, but I’m willing to be schooled in the various ways others can honestly read her words. Not standing-on-their-head readings, but honest ones.

Rand Rover, you demonstrate continually that you are a moron. It stopped being funny months ago.

Interesting. So Sarah Palin is saying that if the Government won’t give her baby free health care, she’ll let him die rather than buy him some herself.

She won’t be able to, since the bloated, inefficient gummint (which can’t deliver the mail / cure the common cold / fix the potholes) will have driven all the super-efficient and oh-so-benevolent private health insurers out of business. Leaving her baby and your gramma at the mercy of the death [DEL]cookies[/DEL] panels.

That happened to me last week. True story!

I wonder what it would take to get on the death panel. I bet the uniforms are badass!

RR’s right. Please have the Mods change the thread title to something more accurate, like “Rand Rover: Flaming Asshole”.

Rand Rover = Thread Shitter

Thread Rover = Rand Shitter

Shit Threader = Rove Rander

Rove Threader = Shit Rander

etc.

Er… if you have to pay for the bloated, inefficient gummint, it doesn’t matter how efficient the private health insurers (or bypassing the insurance altogether and paying out of your own pocket) are, you’re still going to be carrying the dead weight of the bloated, inefficient system that doesn’t cover the service you require. The choice isn’t between Option A for $5,000 and Option B for $50, it’s between Option A for $5,000 and Options A and B for $5,050.

That said, Palin’s still a mouth-breathing Avatar of everything that’s wrong with social conservatism.

It’s not so much that President Obama would create death panels, as he would be nationalizing the existing death panels.

And Sarah’s agin’ it!

Note this, Rand Rover:

Sarah’s calling children and seniors the most precious members of society. What jobs do they create!?

Throwing reasonableness to the wind, respected newspaper Politico makes up that Palin said health care reform would kill her baby:

In other news, local douche bag predictably continues to pretend that a death panel threatening the life of a baby is meaningfully different than killing it.

She is incapable of writing this sort of statement. This is Meg Stapleton, at her most vile.

Well I certainly wasn’t implying that. What I meant was, is there anything in this new healthcare bill that would disqualify total healthcare for someone with Trig’s level of disability?
Private insurers do this all the time.
Palin’s absurd hyperbole aside.

Apparently Sarah Palin doesn’t watch much TV. “Evil Insurance Company denies [costly but lifesaving medical procedure] to lovable and kind mentally disabled/Down Syndrome patient” is a standard trope of hospital dramas. That storyline showed up on ER, Chicago Hope, even way back on Trapper John, M.D.
