So, in other words, I ask if anybody still denies Fox has a right-wing bias, and you answer that I don’t know what I’m talking about, but Fox has a right-wing bias.

Back before MSNBC made a decision to slant left wing and nobody even talked about them, everyone talked about CNN as the left wing answer to Fox, even though I never saw any evidence of much bias. It seemed like a whiny perfunctory response - just assume there’s an equal and opposite biased network.

Then MSNBC clearly made a business decision to be the liberal cable news network and even though they’re still lousy in ratings it’s at least an obvious bias and it’s pretty obviously _improved_ their ratings.

What really confuses me is that even now people still insist on calling CNN the liberal network without any evidence beyond the vague “all media is liberally biased” BS and in spite of ample evidence they’re trying to carve themselves out as the center-of-the-line network. You seem willing to accept that Fox New’s is conservative for profit motive reasons, but when CNN clearly has been trying to be the unbiased news source and they don’t get the benefit of the doubt?

It just seems pretty clear to me that aside from any value judgements on whether Fox is evil or MSNBC makes up for their liberal bias with Scarburrow or whatever else you can see pretty clearly from their business decisions that each of the 3 networks is trying to have either a liberal, conservative or unbiased lean.

I think anyone who says, “All the news media has a liberal bias” is basically saying. “I’m really conservative.” At least that is my experience.

But back to the point at hand. Will Palin be over exposed and everyone see her as a not overly tricky one-trick pony or will Faux News be able to make a silk purse out of a…ahh…um…former vice presidential candidate?

I think that Fox will prep her and script her as much as possible, and the circumstances will be very comfortable and controlled for her. I’m also guessing her appearances will be taped so anything embarrassing or extra stupid can be edited out.

She will not raise any ratings. Anyone who wants to see this twit spew platitudes about the troops and the flag already watches Fox News, and it’s not like she’s going to have her own show. She’s just going to be one of those lame ass contributers" who goes on Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly to agree with every word they say, basically exactly what Karl Rove is doing now. She’ll just become one more yakking head on Fox. I think it will ultimately be a non-event…

The only real potential for comedy is that her narcissistic personality disorder will lead to conflicts with other massive egos like that of Bill O’Reilly. This is a woman who signs her emails as being from God. Her profound self-importance is bound to become grating even to the hosts at Fox, who have been almost farcically obsequious to her up to this point, but will tire of that once she becomes just another routine segment guest.

Actually, it is just the opposite - one has to be pretty far to the left to deny it. The US mainstream recognizes the liberal bias of the main networks such as CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, NPR, CNBC, _The New York Times_, _The Washington Post_, and so forth.

> [@](#):
>
> “By a 39 percent to 20 percent margin,” a Friday summary of their survey relayed, “American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals.” The public perceive liberal bias by 33 percent to 16 percent for CNN and 27 percent to 14 percent for NPR. More believe FNC delivers the news with “neither” a bias in favor of liberals or conservatives than see ABC, CBS, CNN or NBC as unbiased: While 25 percent consider the broadcast networks to be without a slant, 32 percent think CNN is “without bias,” but even more, 36 percent, say that about the Fox News Channel.

> More than three times as many Americans see a media tilt in favor of Democrat Barack Obama than toward Republican John McCain.

> By two-to-one, 40 percent to 21 percent, Americans “believe the media is too liberal” over “too conservative,” the just-released “National Leadership Index” poll by the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, determined. Harvard’s findings in the survey taken in September match a Gallup poll, also conducted in September, which found “more than twice as many Americans say the news media are too liberal (45%) rather than too conservative (18%).” In the Harvard poll, while 68 percent of Republicans said they think “the press is too liberal,” 35 percent of independents agree and even 25 percent of Democrats consider the media to be too liberal, nearly as many as the 28 percent who see it as too conservative.

[Cite](http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2007/cyb20071129.asp#5).

A good way to judge if someone is liberal, conservative, or centrist is to ask if they believe the US news media other than Fox is biased, or not. If they deny it, and especially if they try to change the subject, they are pretty reliably left of center, probably quite a bit so.

Shodan

That won’t happen. She will be entirely protected. She’ll either be alone and working from a script, or she’ll be with someone like O’Reilly who will shill for her, throw her softball questions, and steer her back to safety if she can’t even handle those.

American adults believe lots of things. I wonder how they arrived at their conclusion, if their definition of ‘too liberal’ has meaning, and if it actually means these channels or papers are tailoring their news to suit a particular political party’s views the way Fox does. All an opinion poll does is tell me that people claim the news is biased to the left, and I already knew people claim that.

No, actually, it is the opposite. By the [same Harvard poll](http://content.ksg.harvard.edu/leadership/images/CPLpdf/cpl_nli_2007.pdf) your cite uses (more than two old, BTW), it is Republicans who overwhelmingly believe that there is a liberal bias to the media. 68% do. Democrats and independents, 25% and 35% respectively. See page 8.

That seems to fit correctly with what **Shodan** claimed. Maybe read it again; it was pretty obtusely worded. He basically said conservatives believe there’s a liberal bias in the non-fox media and moderates and liberals realizes there isn’t, which is the same as what you said.

Well, sort of. He claimed that if someone claims there is no media bias other than Fox News they are probably well left of center. The data doesn’t back that up, as they are nearly as likely to be independent/centrist as they are to be liberal (much less far-left liberal). So, no **Shodan** is not correct in his claim.

The only conclusion one can reasonably draw from someone’s claims regarding media bias is that if they claim there is a strong liberal bias they are very likely conservative.

In fact, the data he cites shows this pretty clearly - the numbers perceiving strong liberal bias are in the 30-40% range (roughly), pretty clearly lining up with the number of self-defined conservatives in the nation at large. It’s everybody else that either perceives little bias, doesn’t care, or perceives a rightward bias (often described as a pro-business/establishment bias).

Sorry, I got hypnotized by the big red Republican bar for that anwer. I should have sited the answers further down the graph. 38% of Democrats and 34% of independents say the media is not biased. Only 13% of Republicans do.

My point being that belief of political bias of the media is a far more reliable indicator of a conservative viewpoint rather than a liberal one.

So, according **Shodan** , everything anybody has ever said on TV or in a newspaper ("CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, NPR, CNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and so forth. ") has been nasty evil liberal lies fronted to pull the wool over the eyes of the poor hapless American public.

But Fox ‘News’ has got it all wired tight.
“If it’s not right-wing, it must be left-wing” is a lazy fucking argument. And I see it over and over and over from the whining little maggots on the right who don’t like there news just reported … it has to painted red, white and blue first.

I’ve often watched a CNN reporter let some Republican spout her nonsense then respond with a “well, we’ll leave it at that” rather than, you know, investigate the claim. This is not an indicator of liberal bias. It’s barely reporting. It might not be displaying the active cheerleading that Fox does, but it’s not reporting the news well.
