The two of them were competing for the exact same voters and they have the same name recognition among primary voters at this point, but Bachmann is actually willing to do the work of building an organization and campaigning even though she says enough stupid stuff to kill her own chances. GOP voters don’t seem thrilled with their choices, but I guess she was only going to do this if the nomination was gift-wrapped and everybody did the hard parts for her, and it wasn’t going to happen. ---

She said she is not seeking the “GOP nomination”. I still think if the candidate is Romney, we will see a third (tea) party challenge from either her or Bachmann. ---

I don’t know. She could completely hold the GOP hostage (and garner loads of that life giving attention) by threatening to run a third party challenge. ---

She said that she won’t do that. In fact, her statement implies that she views her role as a king-maker, kind of like the way everyone she supported in 2010 won election. ---

I seem to recall that about one year ago, I offered a bet to those who were sure that Palin would run: I bet that she would get less than 5 percent of the vote in New Hampshire (so either she wouldn’t run or she’d run and get blown out of the water). Nobody took me up on the bet. Why does nobody ever take me up on my political bets? ---

It costs a lot of money to run for president. When someone drops out or decides not to run, you can bet the money isn’t there. She learned during that ill-fated bus tour that her hard-scrabble followers were all broke. I guess that’s the problem with having your core of support among the poorly educated. None of them have good jobs and can pony up bucks for your campaign. ---
