It is an exaggeration of her natural voice. But she did basically sound like that, just a little less Queens/Lawn Island IRL. ---

Just to put the thread back on track for a moment, the Star Trek episode with Pamelyn Ferdyn aired on H&I Network this evening. (I realize that doesn’t mean that much these days when you can stream it anytime you want.) She also has not one, but two Facebook pages - one that focuses on her career and one about her regular life. ---

Pretty close, but not quite the same- she’s clearly got a recognizable NYC accent of some kind, but she clearly exaggerated it for comic effect on the show- particuarly the nasal-sounding part. Her normal voice doesn’t grate on me, but that “Nanny” one always did. ---

You’re preaching to the choir here. It was my _buddies_ who thought/claimed to think she was homely. I think the characters she played may have been a factor. A lot of boys at that age prefer ‘sweet’ to ‘sassy’. ---

I too can’t imagine anyone thinking Fran Drescher was anything but gorgeous. But I’m from West Virginia, and I had friends who claimed to think she was a dog. I think, in addition to what you’ve noted about her voice, there was also an element of “doesn’t look or sound like she’s from around here”. FWIW I met her once at a book signing, and I thought the voice I heard in person was pretty much like the one I heard on TV. ---

In the Russian version of _ **The Nanny** _ (Yes, there is one!), the character is Ukrainian. I’m not real familiar with that language, but it must sound as unsophisticated to Russian ears as an exaggerated New York accent does to ours. (I can’t help wondering if the show is even aired inside Russia nowadays. The last time I was there, I left toward the end of December 2021.) ---
