Pantyhose: Have the rules changed?

I don’t wear slips but I wear pettilegs, the “split” half-slip, because otherwise my thighs get chafy. They’re full enough to serve the opaque function of a slip.

Speaking of shapewear…does anyone wear it? I’m thinking about buying a piece or two. What’s the deal? It certainly looks comfortable.

I have a few pieces. “Comfortable” is a relative term, I guess. I have a butt tube and a full-slip type tube that are decent - they keep the booty in check, and are reasonably comfortable. I have another teddy type shaper piece and I think it actually compressess my internal organs. Comfortable is NOT a word I would use for it; however, it worked really well for the particular outfit I got if for.

I love my split-slip! I have this one. It serves the same function as a regular slip.

I tend to be a trouser wearer but if I wear a skirt to work, I wear pantyhose. Bare legs at work look unprofessional to me. But I’m old.

Oh, and I’ll also add that any stockings look good with a garter belt. Nude, white, black, whatever.

But not pantyhose. Ick.

I have one pair of Spanx, which are sort of the Cadillacs of what used to be called girdles and are now called shapewear. Those aren’t bad. I’ve tried the department store brands and they suck, really constricting and you have a tendancy to “bubble out” in an unattractive fashion. If you’re going to try it (and it really is nice if you want to restrain a bit of belly blobbiness, particularly in a dress), get the Spanx.

And I may totally get that low-rise slip.

Spanx. Spanx. Spanx. The “Higher Power” version. After losing 152 pounds and being pre-reconstructive surgery, it’s the only thing that tames the behemoth that is my sagging stomach skin. Very comfortable. www.spanx.com Also carried at Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Needless Markup & Chicos. There’s also a Target (WalMart?) version called “Assets”

And for those of us who are well, more “blessed” than others, it fucking HURTS!

KellyM does for work and when she wears a dress for special occasions. Girdles do smooth out unsightly bulges.

It is impossible to find pantyhose “one shade lighter” than my skin. I mean, white is white.

Years ago I gave up worrying about my “fishbelly white” legs. I have a severe case of being Caucasian, my skin is white enough to glow in the dark, only albinos are paler (and even that is questionable in February), and people can just deal with it. I’m white, get over it. I fail to see why I should hide my natural skin tone, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

I’m not exactly sure where I implied that wearing pantyhose indicated that you had something to be ashamed of, but ookay.

I did mean to imply that wearing pantyhose presents a more polished appearance than bare legs.

I’m a man, and I could say something, but I won’t.

Preach it sister!! I was going on vacation on time and I packed sunless tanner, tanner and hair lightener. Suddenly I realized I was spending way too much time trying to change colors and decided the hell with that, I am WHITE! I am transparent! I glow in the dark! And I am gonna stay that way!

Not that it helps my quest for pale panty hose…

I wear full slips (as opposed to the half slip, that just goes under the skirt) and camisoles. Nice microfiberish ones that are actually intended as sleepwear but get the job done. I wear tights in winter but I don’t care for pantyhose at all.

As for whether my legs are shaved, sorry, but that’s a social convention too, and while I might, if I’m wearing short skirts, I certainly won’t if I’m mostly wearing longer skirts that season. I’m not going to be dictated to because someone decided body hair is gross, any more than because someone decided I needed a cosmetic layer of nylon over my perfectly normal legs.

I would trim my toenails if I wore open toed shoes, but I’m really not about to put polish on them. This is a moot point as I’m not really into open toed shoes.

Man - my written word has a lot more power than I ever gave it credit for! You don’t want to shave your legs - more power to you. If you do shave your legs - please do shave them - no stubble.

By the way - I wasn’t “dictating” anything to anyone. And if you could show me where I said body hair was “gross”, I’d appreciate that, too.

Carry on.

Sheesh. I’ll just lurk for now - it’s a lot safer. lol

Additionally, a pedicure doesn’t necessarily mean wearing polish.

There. I think I’m done clarifying for the morning.

Right now in Spain, if you wear pantyhose either you’re over 80 or it’s patterned. Mind you, trousers are so common for women that most of us will wear them to interviews as well (it’s the third but very minimal option).

You didn’t say body hair was gross, but that’s the reaction I’ve got to going natural. Please don’t think you have to lurk on my account. You were rather definite on the leg shaving point, but trust me, I’m not about to change my habits over words on the internets

I don’t know why some women make such a deal about them. If you don’t like them, don’t wear them. I might be in the minority, but I think women look much better hosed than bare. Everyone’s tastes are different, for every guy that prefers hose there’s probably one that prefers bare. I’d say do whatever you and/or your partner are comfortable with.
