# Paper handtowels v hot air hand dryers

I work in a hospital, and we have been told that the reason there are no hand-dryers in hospitals is that they blow bacteria around the whole room and are much more dangerous than paper towels, which can be confined to one place - the bin!

A very interesting perspective!

When you start a thread, it’s helpful to other readers if you provide a link to the Column that you’re commenting on. Helps keep us all on the same page, avoids people saying things that Cecil already said, saves readers (and the hamsters who run the server) the time and energy to search, etc. No biggie, you’ll know for next time.

Hand dryer are useless any way. I have seen stickers added to them giving a last instruction for use. Right after “Rub hands together” they say “Wipe hands on pants.”
