Pardoning Hunter Biden (Pardoned on December 1, 2024)

I hate to see Hunter serving more jail time than trump’s probably going to get.

Exactly. Joe’s whole basis for his presidency is pulling the US government back from Trump’s abyss. If he starts pardoning somebody because it’s his son, that is pushing the other way.

Well, as long as trumps sentence is longer- I am okay if he is under house arrest. But the whole Hunter thing is political- he had a deal- and the GOP squashed it. Mind you- Hunter did violate the law.

“Never” is a very long time. The only way it will happen, and it’s still a long shot, is if a Dem POTUS takes a position advocating the Constitutional amendment, but deliberately makes all sorts of pardons that offend Republicans, and dares them to make common cause with Democrats to amend the process. This would involve pardoning Democrats found guilty of crimes that he allows Republicans to remain unpardoned for, pardoning personal friends of his, family members, all the while claiming he’s abusing a Constitutional power of the President in order to get Congress to make such abuses illegal. “Until you do, these pardons, which please me but which offend you, will go on and on…”

I’m for Biden pardoning Hunter just to open a conversation that pardon power needs to be reformed. Let the Republicans howl then offer to fix it.

Exactly. Especially after November 5th, and especially if Harris wins.

First, he should announce that he wants a bill passed, that he will sign, that puts sharp limits on Presidential pardon which has been abused over the years. When he gets no response, or a rejection, by Congress, then he needs to announce that he will indulge in pardons, many of which Congess disapproves of, and certainly the GOP members, to make his point, and then start pardoning people right and left, that he believes deserves pardons, or may deserve pardons, or are personally known to him as good people despite their guilt, etc., culminating with a pardon of his son.

Or perhaps not of his son. Maybe, as I’ve said elsewhere, that should be Kamala Harris’s gift to Biden (assuming Hunter has been sentenced at that point.) And then she should continue his campaign to reform pardoning powers, but not to pardon people wholesale as he had done for the past three months.

Considering trump pardoned the likes of Jared’s dad and Bannon along other unrepentant miscreants, maybe they should just let this one go.

'Tis done.
