Andrew Tate is, or was, a YouTuber whose audience was mainly teenage boys and young men (or so I’ve heard) and gave palpitations to parents who wanted their sons to one day have healthy relationships with women. Anyway, he has been arrested, along with his brother - and Greta Thunberg led authorities to him! You can’t make this up. Pretty amazing. Now, obviously, such an intervention would be something that was being worked on and was ready to go as soon as the right time came – what happened here was that with his little kerfuffle with Ms Thunberg he _called attention to himself_. Which of course was _ **what he wanted!** _ Thinking (not mistakenly) that upon trolling her and her fans then there would ensue a back-and forth and they’d feed his trolling and _that_ would raise his own standing with _his_ fans and help pump up his Professional Dickery gig. Now, if it had been just the initial exchange – > A:_“I got so many cars! But, **noooo** , he, being the kind of schmuck he is, just _had to, **needed to** perform a dominance display…_ and tipped the authorities that he was where they wanted him. One wonders if the guy truly was simply not aware that he was in the police/prosecution’s sights, or knew but felt it would be a matter of getting a citation to meet by his lawyer’s side ot answer some questions. What it seems is that none of that was in his mind, priority one for ten hours was being _seen_ pwning the snowflake and getting the last word in to humble her. Well, _that_ went well didn’t it… ---

I looked up the pizza chain whose box tipped the feds off to his location - and their pizzas sell for the equivalent of about $5-$8 US, which is just even more hilarious. It’s as if Sam Bankman-Fried had gotten busted because he had a Little Caesar’s box on his table. ---

Yeah, I keep hearing this, and yet I’m not a firm believer in coincidences. Nothing I heard has debunked the pizza box theory, just denials that it happened this way. Let’s just say I find the denials unconvincing: The timeline is the timeline. We all know the police use social media to track down suspects, and I’m positive the institutional descendents of one of the most brutal police states of the Communist era isn’t missing _that_ trick. And, to be honest, it’s more _fun_ to believe this happened, which matters too. 😀 In the end, the insignificance of Andrew Tate in the grand scheme of things does allow us to take a more… Herodotus-esque… approach to the history here, don’t you think? I do. 😁 ---

Some other fact-check sites are more equivocal. As in “The authorities knew he was in Romania, but not necessarily exactly where. The pizza boxes and the timing of the social media post allowed them to close it down to a specific actionable address.” The authorities want to get some credit for the boring policework that came before the climactic arrest. So of course the pizza box was just the last peice of the puzzle, not the whole puzzle.
