One that happened just this morning!

In the early weeks, my baby wouldn’t latch to nurse unless I was involved in every step of the process, but after she got the hang of it, she would sometimes lose the latch if she got distracted and then get herself back on with no big fuss. Once your baby gets to that stage, it is possible for him/her to lose the latch on your nipple, and then start nursing again, only they have MISSED THE NIPPLE so they are futilely sucking on the side of your breast. And it is also possible that you are tired or zoning out so you don’t notice right away, not until you have a hungry and frustrated baby, and a hickey the size of Lake Michigan on your boob.

> Oh, just wait until he figures how to remove his diaper. I have a picture of my daughter with the clean diaper on her head, like a hat, and jumping in a puddle of pee. Which she did in the 1 minute it took me to go answer the phone.

I still laugh at my brother recounting the horror tale of when my Number One Nephew decided he didn’t want his diaper on during naptime. My brother went to wake the kid up, only to discover that the kid had apparently taken off his poop-filled diaper, twirled it around flinging poop everywhere like it was a crap slingshot, then rolled his poopy butt around the sheets, and scooted along the carpet for good measure.

Since my SiL was at work, my mom got a call from my at-his-wits-end brother, who was hosing down the poopy kid, naked, in the backyard, having left the poop-bestrewn bedroom alone with crap on the bed, carpet, walls, light fixtures, stuffed animals, clothes, etc…

(Since I have no children, I can laugh at this without fearing karma striking me down.)

So, you are saying to keep the dog and the cats out of the kid’s room?

> If you don’t listen to anything else at all, ever, listen to this. Your child is going to ADORE you. I am not, and will never be a stay at home mom. I would be a TERRIBLE stay at home mom. I know some women are great at it, but I would be terrible. I never made my own baby food. I only breast fed for five months. According to some people, I do a job that is inappropriate for women, especially mothers. And for a while, I allowed some people to make me feel super guilty about all these things. But when my son races towards me with a huge grin and says “Mommy! I love you, right! Kiss power!”

Yeah, the stay-at-home vs. work-outside-the-home debates are every bit as fierce as breast vs bottle, and every bit as much a personal decision.
