That house arrest must be a real bitch. _Entertainment Tonight_ just reported that she had a bakery deliver some cupcakes to her mansion in celebration of her early release.
No, 100 would be pure alcohol. 1.0 would be 1% BAC (which would most certainly be fatal), what I (and I believe lowbrass) meant to say was .10. The legal limit in the United States is presently .08.

It’s generally thought above .50 is lethal but I think there was a case in Eastern Europe awhile back of someone having a BAC that was theoretically lethal but somehow they seemed to be mostly okay.
Wait a minute… 2 pints of (British) beer will put an average person over the .08 limit… so according to you 20 pints would easily kill someone!?

That’s absolute nonsense. I would often drink more than that on a night out, and speaking as someone currently doing some work at a university I promise you most young lads have a very similar attitude!
I wouldn’t know, but I really doubt it’s normal for someone to be sentenced to 23 days and serve five. Wouldn’t she have just been sentenced to five days?
I don’t know if this has been answered but here goes.

I just quoted what TMZ said. My response to this question is (and I have no commitment to this particular issue either way), I mentioned it because they seemed to be saying that’s normal sentence for this type of thing.

My take of that is, perhaps (again I don’t care) its perhaps they went overboard with Hilton in the first place because of who she is and they wanted to make an example, and here was a chance, after the fact, to bring the sentence more in line with past practices.

FTR, I don’t have a high Paris Hilton from what I’ve heard and read about her. Outside of the stupidity of her driving without a license (and violation probation) though, shouldn’t the original sentence have been more in line with reality and history, not whether Paris is stupid, rich and a skank.
At 5% alcohol, 20 pints = 1 pint of pure alcohol = 1 quart of 100 proof liquor. If you drink it over the course of a night, your body has a chance to metabolize the alcohol. I think the typical rate would be approx 1 beer per hour, so if you have been drinking for six hours, you metabolized 6 of the 20 pints.

OTOH, drink a full quart of high proof liquor in one sitting and you definitely are at risk.

YMMV, everyone’s body is different.

2 imperial pints of British beer puts you over the .08 limit? Not quite, according to [this BAC calculator](http://www.ou.edu/oupd/bac.htm), which says that 4 12-oz. servings of imported beer (which is 8 oz. more than two 20-oz. imperial pints) consumed in 1 hour will boost a 160-lb. person’s BAC to about .07. Unless those “young lads” are fairly shrimpy, they shouldn’t be getting seriously impaired on a couple of pints.

More importantly, your body is continually getting rid of alcohol in your bloodstream even as you’re putting more alcohol in. So unless you can somehow manage to down 20+ pints all at once and not piss most of it away before you absorb its alcohol, you aren’t likely to accumulate a fatal BAC level from it.

This is why beer and other low-ABV beverages are somewhat safer to binge on than high-proof straight hard liquors. Even in a good beer, most of what you’re drinking is water, so your bladder gets full long before your bloodstream does.

I agree with most of what you wrote, but all other things being equal, does peeing actually change the amount of alcohol absorbed into the bloodstream? I wouldn’t think that would be the case.

Her “Get out of Jail Free” card may have had an expiry date on it. According to [TMZ](http://www.tmz.com/) in their most recent updates, she has been ordered to appear tomorrow before the courts, and only yesterday the judge had declined approving her move to electronic monitoring.

So technically, she spent all of 3 days in jail, not 5.
>
> Spoiled bitch.

Wrong. Calif. attorney interviewed on Fox News this morning stated quite clearly that the penal code says that if you enter at 11:59, you served that day in jail and similarly, if you exit a prison at 12:01 am, you have served that full date ( 24 hour period ) in jail. Everyone is crowing about this, and apparently it is 100 % state law and not some namby pamby bending of the rules.

The method of counting days served is a state-wide law and has been applied accurately here.

Cartooniverse ( I know, cite. Cite. I’m looking. )

You really are dumber than a box of hair, aren’t you? Why don’t you try to read what I typed instead of talking out of your ass to try to sound superior. There’s not a single fucking thing in what you said that contradicts a single fucking thing in my post.

Bitch checked in before midnight Sunday, so she gets credit for that day.

Bitch checked out after midnight on Thursday, so she gets credit for that day.

But because of the timing, _technically_, she only actually spent 3 days in jail.

And then you come in and boldly declare me “Wrong,” and then repeat the exact same fucking thing I said. If you could find where I called that procedure “some namby pamby bending of the rules” you might have a point. But I didn’t, and you don’t.

Now kindly go piss off.

The people of California should feel less safe. Paris might kill a family the next time she drives drunk, as seems to happen every few years here in New Mexico.

No, the alcohol is absorbed higher up, in the stomach (and maybe large intestine). Peeing just makes you feel better, especially if you’ve had 20 pints in an hour. 😉

not at all, it’s the lingo of the field in question, and at times I forget that it doesn’t translate.

\*\* Cartoon/Shayna\*\* I believe you’re both arguing two angles of a nit. On the one hand, Paris did indeed get credit for 5 days, this is the standard usage of the terms for the industry. It is, of course, to the lay person the general equivalent of essentially 3 days.

so you’re both floor wax \*\* and \*\* a dessert topping.

I’m not arguing any angle of a nit – I’m stating facts. Checking in before midnight allows her to be credited for that day. Checking out after midnight allows her to be credited for that day. It is possible, and proven by this specific case, that a person can _technically_ spend 3 days in prison, but be credited with 5 because of how the system is set up.

That’s what I said, and all I said (aside from calling her a spoiled bitch, which really isn’t relevant to the point being argued).

In response to that post, **Cartooniverse** jumps in and declares me “wrong.”

I wasn’t. Period.

Outside of the stupidity of her driving without a license (and violation probation) though, shouldn’t the original sentence have been more in line with reality and history, not whether Paris is stupid, rich and a skank.
Whether it’s fair or not, the decision should have been predicated on the fact that she is high-profile.

I’m remembering back when Zsa Zsa Gabor (Paris’s aunt by marriage, for those who have not been reading along) slapped a BHPD officer. She also only spent three days in jail, but that’s how long her sentence was. The point is, much was made at the time of how some kind of punishment had to be handed down, because otherwise the BHPD (and the LAPD; again, not fair, but people would have conflated them) would have become a laughingstock. Imagine pulling over a car full of homeboys, knowing that they know that a rich white society dame had slapped a fellow officer, with no consequences.

So now Paris gets released early, apparently for reasons that people were joking about last week (can’t eat the food, panic attacks and so forth) and the joke has become reality. Also, if the one report I read is to be believed, the other prisoners were **not** hostile towards her. They were allegedly sending “You go girl” notes to her via the guards, asking if they could hook up after their own sentences were completed, asking for her signature, and effectively making it another red-carpet experience for her.

I suppose it doesn’t surprise me that being a celebrity in the civilian world automatically confers prison celebrity status. Paris has been acting like white trash for a long time, and I’m thinking that if you break it down, most of the women in that prison have still, despite whatever they did to get in there, not been so **thoroughly** self-indulgent as she is. They’ve still had to play by society’s rules to some extent, while Paris never has.
