# Parrot Emergency (DC Area)

One of the local parrot rescue organizations in the DC metro area has taken charge of 80 parrots abandoned by a breeder. This puts a great strain on the resources of the Wilson Parrot Foundation:[http://www.wilsonparrotfoundation.com/](http://www.wilsonparrotfoundation.com/)
# They have sent out this message:
Hello to all our friends … We have had an interesting weekend. Last night, we received a call from a lady that had rented her house to a “breeder”. He was taken out of the home and left the birds, close to 80 of them. Yes, I said 80. The volunteers have rallied. But right now we need your help. While we can’t adopt any of these birds on a permanent basis right now, we are in DIRE need of foster parents. We are also in need of volunteers and cash. If you can volunteer for a couple of hours or write a small check, we’d sure appreciate your help. If you know of anyone that wants to foster, now is the time. Finally, if you know an avian vet that could possibly help us with testing, it would be a godsend.

Paul, I am in the DC area and would love to help. But I have no parrot experience, or any experience with domestic birds whatsoever. However, I am a fierce animal lover, and especially love birds.
I am not sure if I could foster, given that I don’t have any experience, but do they need volunteers at their facility to help out? I’d be willing to do just about anything, and given that I am currently unemployed, I have a lot of free time!!

I think there is some sort of rule against my posting of telephone numbers and whatnot here. The web address is:

I got the name of two good avian vets in the area. Don’t know if they’d be willing to help or not, but at least the rescue could ask.

We’re around DC and have experience with birds (currently have 5 cockatiels and AC has taken care of a Quaker previously) but transportation could be a problem.

Their contact info is in a graphic on the upper right hand of the site, but the way they have named the graphic makes AdBlock block it. ( **Paul** , you should mention this to them if you could)

I put up some cash, myself, and sent a copy of the plea from Brian Wilson to my aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh who are parrot lovers & owners.

Well, we called and expressed interest in fostering along with the fact that we aren’t driving at the moment…and the woman who answered the phone said they can’t leave the premises right now. She did not offer a a time when they _could_ leave the premises.

**Lute** , if you’re in the area I would be happy to transport you and/or the birds. I don’t have any bird experience, so I don’t feel comfortable fostering, but I’d be happy to get the birds to a new home.
