As I said before, I’m a part-time worker. In my experience, part-time work attracts students, married women, stay-at-home moms whose kids have gone to school, and senior citizens. Or, generally speaking, people who:
a) are looking for a supplemental, not primary, source of income
b) don’t need benefits, such as insurance, because they already have this via their (parents, spouse, SS)
So the sticking point with me with re to Lurker’s job would not be the hourly pay, which is definitely higher than most unskilled part-time jobs, but the limit of 2 weeks off. No way would I limit myself to 10 days off per year, not after a certain age and income level. There’s simply no work/life balance for me in that scenario.
Honestly, I’d rather make $10 and be allowed 4 weeks UNPAID PTO (personal time off - could be sick or vacation), vs. $15 with only 2 weeks PTO. With the savings that Lurker would make, he could hire a temp to cover the days/weeks I was out.
