Parts of the country notorious for speed traps or pulling people over for minor infractions.

It made the news because the town tried to get the billboard taken down but couldn’t. They then put up their own counter-billboard announcing, “Lawtey cares about safety” or something along those lines. It would always make me laugh to see it. Here it is.

Any interstate or highway entering Oregon. OR has a lower speed limit than every state around it, and the state patrol loves to nab people speeding in over the border.

Particularly bad spots:

I-5 heading north from CA. There’s a long descent into Ashland. Don’t speed. Do stop by Ashland, which is a gorgeous little town.

I-5 heading south into Portland. Oftentimes, the traffic is so bad there’s no opportunity to speed, but I’ve seen police pulling people over like crazy at times.

Speeding on I-5 anywhere between Eugene and Portland is a bad idea (especially through Salem), as is speeding anywhere near Medford or Ashland (as above.)

US 395 heading N from CA. Little towns need revenue.

I-84 heading east from ID.

YMMV.

When I was in the Navy, my first duty station was Alameda. I was walking to a bus stop early one Sunday morning, and saw a coffee shop across the street that was open. Since I had some time to kill before my bus arrived, I decided to get a quick bite to eat.

I used the crosswalk at the intersection, but jumped out the last 3 or 4 feet, as it was closer to the front door. There was a cop inside, drinking coffee. He waited until I finished eating, then followed me outside.

Where he promptly gave me a ticket for Jaywalking.

First place to come to mind.

I-90/94 across Wisconsin. It links Chicago and the Twin Cities.

I don’t know if it’s true any more, but for a while there the patrol cars were equipped with credit card readers. Pay on the spot, or have your license confiscated and you have to show up back in Wisconsin for a date with a judge, to get it back. A lot of people didn’t bother to contest the tickets, because it wasn’t worth taking a day or more off work to get back to Wisconsin to get your license back.

Rosendale, WI Never gotten one along that stretch myself, but have seen several people pulled over.

Did end up with a ticket in Golden Meadow, LA, and a threat that I could be held in jail because of my out of state plates.
