I just want to order a fucking pizza online. I want to use a simple easy password consists of only numbers. WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU MAKING ME COME UP WITH AN 8 CHARACTER PASSWORD THAT HAS AN UPPERCASE LETTER, A LOWER CASE LETTER, AND A SPECIAL SYMBOL?!?!?!
What the fuck are you trying to protect. but fine. Just realize that I will never remember this password that I made up on the spot. That means that ordering form you will always be a pain in my ass and I will order from you less than I otherwise would.

Outlook and Apple are requiring that. Perhaps the pizza guys just want to be as secure as Microsoft and Apple.

Well,now you know you’ll need to come up with passwords like that. It’s one of the most common sets of password requirements these days.
So come up with an original one that you CAN remember, and use it on all those sites like Pizza places.

OMG dude, you wouldn’t want total strangers ordering pizza for you, would you? Be grateful the idiots are protecting you.
Were you using Papa Johns by any chance? We tried to order on line from them and gave up due to the stupidity of their web site. So now they are getting exactly zero of our dollars. Way to go, PJ.

Lastpass/KeePass/1password/take your pick. You can tell it to autogenerate a random password with fixed complexity.
I find that there is a correlation between how strict the standards are and how trivial getting your password stolen is. Banks are often less strict than pizza places.

What bugs me is when they don’t divulge their password rules until AFTER you’ve created one. Why can’t they just tell you up front?

These days I use
qQ1!qQ1!
as my password for everything. Only need three keys including the shift; very easy to remember. I keep expecting “Password must contain at least five distinct characters” or “Insufficient Kolmogorov complexity” but so far the password has passed all tests.
You’re all welcome to use this if you don’t want to waste time creating an account at download\_whatever.edu or nasa\_blahblah.gov. I don’t remember if I’m using this password now for SDMB, or one of my even-easier-to-remember passwords. (You’re all welcome to impersonate me and try to get me Banned but I have a golden-haired angel protecting me. In a recent thread I played a combination shot that got TWO Dopers Warned … but not me. :eek: )

Yes. Even worse is when they tell you their six rules _one-by-one_. Even when your first attempt violates all six rules, they only tell you the first violation they observe for each attempt. :smack: I got so annoyed I gave up trying to create an account at stackexchange. (I think that was what led me to just using _qQ1!qQ1!_ for everything.)

Use Roboform or Keepass. They have password generators and will autosave your new password.
Lastpass works too, but I don’t like it’s UI compared to Roboform, which I’ve been using for 15 years. I use Roboform every single day and it always works flawlessly.

I hate Windows 10 because every time you reboot, you have to enter your password. The machine is in my house. Nobody else is getting on. I don’t need no freaking password.

I’m able to reboot Windows 10 without having to enter in my password (although it does ask for password if I waken it up back from sleep after a long time).

They also wanted a number in the password. So an 8 character password with and upper case, lower case, special symbol and a number. For fucking pizza.

On _Archer_, they use “password” and “guest” quite often. But they _are_ (were) a spy agency, after all. 😉

Yes, and other things can be used for those that are less chemistry inclined. Use a Mnemonic.
Something made up from something else. For me it’s songs.
For instance “Stepped on a pop top blew out my flip flop” (Jimmy Buffet) can be - Soaptbomff
Add a number and special character and you’re good to go. And it’s easy to remember.
For instance - I’m learning the guitar, and need to remember the stings EADGBE becomes - Edie ate dynamite good bye Edie.
Don’t use EADGBE for your password though. Probably pretty common.

I started to use one of those password vault programs a few months ago and in the process of setting it up, am amazed at the sheer number of usernames and passwords I have. Perhaps fifteen or so are work-related but there are still over fifty others.
As for banking sites, I think they’re moving towards two-factor authentication. It’s voluntary now, but I expect it to be mandatory eventually.

Unless I want to order a pizza from work to pick up on my way home, in addition to being able to order at home. Or can you set those up so that they share passwords between devices (home computer/smartPhone/work computer/computer at the library)?
