Past Cheesiness in the Future

This may be a woosh, but I think make-up and prosthetics make a much better alien, and my 13 yr old son agrees. Most CGI looks completely fake, even if it is high budget, while good make-up jobs rarely look fake.

YMMV.

… I think G meant iPad, iWatch, iPhone…

I’m pretty sure people in the future (if we don’t do so already) will look at those rubber socks with the toes and marvel at why people of the 2000s thought they were anything but hideous.

Dang I thought this thread was about cheese.

The problem predicting that tattoos will go away is that tattoos are, you know, permanent. Yes, in 30 years it might be that no kids will be getting tattoos and think of them as old-timey and lame, but the 20-something hipsters of today will still have the tattoos they got today when they’re 50. And yes, there are going to be lots of tattooed grandmas and grandpas in the nursing homes, and people will think it’s normal.

Lol this is probably how the tattoo fad will end, when the grandkids see their grandparents saggy, faded tats.

Nope, those are on their way out too.

I think electronic components of the 70’s and 80’s with outsides made of wood look a lot more cool that the plastic stuff with blue LEDs that we have now.

Get off my lawn!

I doubt that seeing elderly people with tattoos will be a deterrent to young people getting them. There are elderly men with military tattoos that are blue and blobby, something I’ve been seeing since I was a kid.

Besides, back in the 40s and 50s there wasn’t a lot of stress on tattoo aftercare (touch-ups every ten years, keeping the tat out of the sun, etc) so that contributes to why tattoos on elderly people are faded. In the future older people’s tattoos should look a little less faded than the ones you see today.

Also, I’m guessing in the future there will be some advances in tattoo removal, so the really ugly and blobby ones can just be removed instead of being a ghastly sight to youngsters.

And finally, one thing about being young is that you really can’t imagine yourself getting old. The sight of elderly people with tattoos, possibly faded or maybe not so much- wouldn’t put off a young 20-something living in the moment. Early 20-somethings aren’t known for their foresight and planning for the future.

You can find old episodes of “Battle of the Network Stars” on youtube with a lot of past celebrities. It’s a whole lot of cheesy and pointing out how rediculous they look with their fashions and hairstyles of the 70s.
Today’s reality shows featuring celebrities (Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Apprentice, The Voice, etc.) are going to look equally rediculous. “OMG, is that a young Adam Levine? What a tool!”

I’m wondering how the plastic breasts will age. In some groups of 20-somethings today fake breasts outnumber real ones. Once all those gals are 75 years old and are chest size 42 extra long it’ll be a sight to behold. Or a sight of some sort at least.

Wait, what? (I don’t get out much)

When everyone’s grandma has a tattoo, the kids in those days will find some other way to express themselves. I anticipate neuro-enhancing implants, daisy-chained to look like dreadlocks.

Wearing leggings as pants will seem both hideously unattractive and weirdly emphasizing one’s buttocks. The trend of a pale face, heavy black eyeliner, and flat, straightened hair might also seem bizarre.

It might just be me, but today’s architecture really doesn’t seem to be one of the highpoints of the art. Everything’s trying to either be ultra-modern and cold or is just a brick box. Although the boxiness in buildings has been going on for a couple decades now, so that might hang in there.

Yes, tattoos won’t seem hip, or rebellious, or youthful, or shocking. Except, they’re not that way now and haven’t been since the 90s. Tattoos are mainstream, not a youth culture fad. Maybe people will stop getting new ones, but it’s also possible that they’ll just be a thing that people of all ages and socioeconomic statuses do for the foreseeable future. Some fashions come and go, others come and stay.

I expect in 40 to 50 years, neckties will be considered ridiculous.

In the more immediate future, we’ll look back on the way men wear scarves as part of their apparel like we look back on ascots or tying a sweater around your neck now.

NO! Say it ain’t so!:frowning:

Men shaping/trimming their eyebrows. It’s the most hideous fad I’ve ever seen, and I can’t wait until men return to a natural look. I’d rather see a monobrow than something artificial-looking.

For a good laugh Google “Sears Catalog 1970”. The sport coats, the bell bottoms, the bright colors!

OTOH their is still a big market for wood burning stoves.
