I’m unfamiliar with the OP. I know all about hockey and rape though. I trust a thorough investigation will occur and if charges are laid I also expect a fair trial.
If he’s found guilty then I expect whatever penalty is normally given for rape in New York state.
Okay…I know I’ve whinged about this in the past, and I know that FOR THE MOST PART this is a US-centric board, but there’s plenty of us who DON’T live in the US and have no idea who or what the fuck you are talking about!
It would be sweet if you could give a brief synopsis of the case when you post your OP…really, it’s not a big ask.
To be fair, it’s like a five second google search. I mean, it’s nice when an OP provides information for the clueless foreigners like us, but, really, not such a big deal.
There are plenty of us in the US who do not follow sports in general, hockey specifically, or entertainment news, even the portion focused on accusation of illegal behavior.
I do not immediately understand all the thread titles. I either ignore them or open the thread to find the link to the relevant news story.
It’s clear from the first sentence that an athlete, probably very good at his job, has been accused of rape. Further reading indicates that he is supposed to start his first season with the Chicago hockey team.
Okay, I don’t care, but it’s the Pit, so I scan of few posts to see if an entertaining argument will break out … and this could turn into a pitting of the Original Poster, so I might follow it. But I’m not upset that the thread is not about some minor politician in the US (or Canada, Australia, or GB).
Come to think of it, if wide-ranging mumps outbreaks return to hockey this year, it could go a long way towards solving the (alleged) rape problem. :dubious:
Okay, I googled Kane, he seems to have been with the Black Hawks for nearly a decade, so this must be the first year of a new contract?
This is my point - this is not an example of US-centrism, but an example of not everyone on the board having the same interests, but still getting enough out of the OP to understand the general point of the thread.
And let us assume that a rape test kit documents Kane’s sperm in the alleged victim’s vagina.
Further let us assume that the alleged victim says she was raped and that Kane claims that sex was consensual and perhaps even that the woman had approached him before this leaked with threats of going through with a rape charge unless he paid her X amount of money. (The so-called “golddigger” charge.) His story is that he has refused and that this “leak” is her following through.
Honestly both are believable.
Assuming that, what likely happens from here? How is your take on likely reality different from what you think should happen?
I’m in the same city as the OP and a Blackhawks fan. I would love to see our boys get a fourth Stanley Cup.
BUT, if young Mr. Kane turns out to have committed a sexual assault I will be one of the first and loudest calling for his ass to get locked up and booted off the team. While fans can be prone to make excuses for athletes who get in trouble, the dumbassery in the OP in no way represents all Hawks fans.
I will note, the Chicago media is reporting Kane is under investigation for “an incident” that occurred at his home. Though the implication is clear, the phrase “sexual assault” much less “rape” has been noticeably absent from the stories I’ve seen. It will be interesting to see how they cover this as the situation evolves.
Although he was indicted for assault, theft, and harassment, he pled down to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct as long as he could stay out of trouble for a year.
On the other hand, he allegedly punched and grabbed by the throat a cab driver and refused to pay him because he couldn’t get his 20 cents in change back. The cab ride was $14.80 and Kane wanted to give the driver $15 and get his change back.
To be fair, this was originally posted in The Game Room so those seeing it would be more likely in the target audience. It was moved for obvious reasons.
