According to [reports](http://www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=39197&cat=2) Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer and only has 5 weeks to live. I hope this doesn’t make me a bad person but the first thought that came to mind was the episode of _M_A_S_H\* that he appeared on where he was a soldier diagnosed with leukemia. I hope that his remaining time is peaceful and as painfree as possible. ---

Dammit. IIRC, pancreatic cancer is a bitch. I had a huge crush on him ever since he played Orry Main in _North and South._ If they can’t cure him, I hope they can dope him to the gills so he won’t be in any pain. ☹ ---

**ivylass** , AIUI, the problem with pancreatic cancer isn’t so much that it’s inherently worse than other cancers - the problem is that for a number of reasons it’s a silent cancer, without any large scale symptoms. So it remains undiagnosed and untreated until it has metastasized. Metastasized cancers are a particularly ugly way to go, no matter where they started. My best wishes and hopes for serenity for him and his family at this time. ---

Sorry to hear. He always seemed like a pleasant guy. And now, at this point in my professional career, I know that Barney pushed me to be the best I could be…to reach heights I never knew I could reach. Barney made me a better person. ---

I tried googling information about this, and turned up some reports that Swayze is _already dead_ of a heart attack. Apparently CNN is reporting this, though it’s not online yet. Can anyone confirm this? ---
