Paul Harvey: The Rest Of The Story

And, just a lucky search in my Newspaper database.

A “Harry Aurandt” was a Tulsa policeman, who was killed in the line of duty on December 18, 1921. The Esquire story said 1924, in a hunting accident.

I’m off to email Mr Brashler, to ask where he got his info for that item.

Maybe, if I have time, I’ll tell you more about the funeral story, how the KKK marched to the cemetery, and threw roses in his grave during the service. That doesn’t imply that Aurandt was a KKK member. Tensions were running high in Tulsa at that time. I think it was merely support for the police.

I would imagine THAT would make a lasting impression on a five year old, assuming Paul was at the graveside service.

And when you’re done with all this research, what will we know?

Thank you for finding…the rest of the story.

(BTW, keep up the good work and it sounds like you have a very sell-able magazine/newspaper feature!)

It keeps me out of the bars.

Timely note:

Monday May 9 will mark the anniversary of “The Rest of the Story” first appearance in 1976.

Carry on.
