So I was trapped in the car today with no choice but to listen to what is referred to as _Paul Harvey & The News_.
1. It’s not news, it’s much more like reading Larry King’s old column in **USA Today** : "The best eggcreams in the world come from Brooklyn…I think Sharon Gless, should be on tv every night…everyone should get their flu shots and get 'em early… That sort of thing, except Paul always has at least one story about the evils of liberalism/democrats.
Well, today, the Nobel Academy announced who won the Nobel Prize for literature and it wasn’t an American, which seemed to enrage Paul, and he actually wondered, “Why they didn’t give the prize to an American author every year?”😕 😕 :eek: :eek:
I don’t know, maybe because the Nobel committee isn’t based in the US for one thing.
Sheesh, why can’t he hurry up and die already.

I haven’t heard Paul Harvey in years; I remember hearing him claim acid rain was nothing to worry about because we can individually de-acidify all the ponds…
He used to be a good source for urban legends reported as news.

Paul Harvey…Larry King…and Andy Rooney. They give adle-brained old white men in the media with loyal but aging followings a bad name. If any of them were informative or even entertaining anymore, it might be worth keeping them on the air. Instead it’s more like the media version of “Let’s just play along with Grandpa, he’s old and doesn’t know what he’s saying anymore.”
Get rid of all of them, not because they are old, but because they are horrible at their jobs. Let’s get rid of Charles Grodin too, who should go back to making dog movies instead of being a professional asshat commentator.

I find Paul Harvey very helpful. When I hear his dumb-ass voice on the radio, I know that I’ve got exactly two minutes to get to work or else be late.

First, I’m no Paul Harvey fan. He spreads more ignorance than any human should be allowed.
However, If I heard correctly, he didn’t say what the OP opines. What I heard him say is, and I have to paraphrase, because I didn’t record it, is: Don’t they ever read books by American authors?
I still thought it was stupid, but he wasn’t asking that the prize be awarded to Americans every year.

Someone in Valparaiso surely does, as he is broadcast on the “Dawn Patrol!” on the local country station! I hate it because there is a person at work who turns every radio to the counrty station. I re-tune a couple to classic rock so that i do not go batshit.
I do not hate country rock, but i can only take so much.

I’m not sure what your intent here was, **pk** , but just in case you _weren’t_ being sarcastic I suggest you read [this](http://www.epa.gov/airmarkets/acidrain/) and learn a bit more about acid rain. While it is true that the media has become somewhat less interested in the issue, it is very much still with us (although we’ve gotten better).

**PK** , though I see **Beeblebrox** has addressed the issue, and I concur that it was a classic Chicken Little situation, it’s a very real problem. If we’re ever both in upstate New York in March or April, I will be pleased to take you to a stream enriched by spring run-off from melting snow, with the pH of white vinegar.
It used to have trout. For some reason, it doesn’t any more.
