Anybody who cares anymore already knows who wrote it all by himself. And those who know it don’t really care anymore.
You know we’ve gotten past 9/11 when Sir Paul and Yoko are yipping at each other again…
I say, “McLennon”. Now play nice. Sheesh!
Feh! I prefer LeNartney.
F. U. Shakespeare’s Rule:
Paul wrote 90% of the Beatles’ good songs; John wrote 90% of the Beatles’ great songs.
You’re buying into Paul’s silliness. There is absolutely no convention I am aware of in publishing that states that the order of the names credited reflects the relative contribution of the collaborators. It does not work that way, it is not supposed to be interpreted that way, and Paul is trying to right a wrong that is completely in his own mind.
If he feels he is being slighted somehow by “society” with regard to his relative contribution to pop culture, perhaps he’s right. But that slight is not an offshoot of 40 years of having his name second. Having your name second signifies…nothing. The phrase “Lennon-McCartney,” on the other hand, has transformed into something magical to those of us who love the Beatles. Why would he want to mess that up?
