PC Gaming Dead! Oh no wait, Steam just made a billion this year.

But I am also a person - now 30 - who spent my childhood playing video and PC games (my username is from a PC game, after all).

Regardless, I’ve always seen this as more of a cognitive dissonance of sorts…I was a huge Sega Genesis fanboy back in the day and remember having huge arguments about how it was so much better than Super Nintendo. But here’s the thing - I said those things because I couldn’t afford a Super Nintendo, so I tried very hard to convince myself that mine was the right choice because there was no way in hell I was going to acquire the other one, and there was a lingering fear they might be right.

But now that I (like most anyone my age) can afford any of the consoles, I just don’t care which one fails or not. I’ll just buy whatever’s standing at the end. I don’t perceive it as a personal attack if someone says that the Wii is going to fail among hardcore gamers or that PC games are dying or whatever. If you’re happy and having fun with what you have, then that’s all that matters.

Of course, now I am a car fanboy, since I cannot buy whichever one I want and must convince myself that mine is actually the best. Don’t anyone dare insult my car!

Most of which are the gaming equivalent of “Straight to Video” movies. Obviously no platform is immune to the insidious encroach of Shovelware, but there does seem to be a lot more of it than PC (with the Wii coming a close second IMHO).

This is so highly dependent on your definition of shovelware as to be both unarguable and useless.

Alternate answer: Have you LOOKED at XBLA lately?

Not having an Xbox, no, I haven’t. FWIW, most game purchasing in this part of the world is still done by going to a games retailer and buying discs, so my impressions of what’s on the market are largely based around my own observations in game retailers.

I don’t think anyone said anything, so I’ll bite. I’d love to play the Monkey Island remake, if you still have an extra copy.

My Steam name is Fusionware.

Thanks!

Works for me, my impressions of XBLA and PS3’s online service are entirely based on the griping from a buddy of mine who owns both platforms. Shovelware seems to be a fair portion of the market on all platforms at this time.
