Elvis Costello & the Attractions playing “Radio, Radio” on Saturday Night Live. Story goes like this: the band was booked for the show and wanted to play that song (their current single), but the producers said “no way” because of course it’s a tirade against corporate media and so they understandably wanted none of that. They agreed to play “Less Than Zero” instead, which already was an old song. So the band enters the stage and begins playing “Less Than Zero”, but they stop after a few bars and launch into a stomping version of “Radio, Radio” with all the glee Costello could muster. Producers going nuts, and EC banned for American TV for years. One of the biggest fuck-yous to the suits in rock history, and isn’t that what rock’n’roll is all about? Carlos Santana and his band at Woodstcok [Santana - Evil Ways 1969 “Woodstock” Live Video Sound HQ (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPauXWjY4T8&t=5s) According to music lore, the band were told that they were scheduled to play in the afternoon, so Carlos took some LSD in the morning, figuring that the high would wear off. But the schedule was changed, so he was performing under the influence of a powerful psychedelic drug. ---
