BTW, eating yogurt with active culture may help ward of yeast infections if you are prone to them.

Yes men can get yeast infections. Anywhere warm and moist. I would not recommend.

A word to the wise, ALWAYS use a fresh towel after a shower.

Apologies - I know my post was lame fro GQ on thr SDMB. My post was incomplete, and was suppossed to have a link about overuse of antibiotics and the typical side effects. Said link is now sitting in my fave folder at home, not here at the office.

There is a healthy debate to be had about when to use antibiotics and for how long. Maybe I am begging the question by jumping in and assuming we are in agreement that antibiotic use is associated with yeast infections. The link was to add a list of possible other ailments.

My bad - carry on.

Seriously, you throw your towel in the laundry every day? So - I’m assuming you shower daily - you go through seven towels a _week_?

Uh…yeah? Nice and clean and dry becomes nice and clean and moist and warm and sits in the dark for the rest of the day. That’s not tumeric growing on your towel, baby!

And FTR, not everyone uses a towel. Some of us prefer to “air dry.”

Yeah, I used to do that, too…use 7 towels a week.

Then I got married. The laundry duties fell to my wife (and please, no jokes…we split chores, but she gets laundry because I hate it and I get grocery shopping because she hates it).

Washing 14 towels a week was really not her thing. So we let the towels hang dry. In the bathroom. They’re fine by the next morning, and we’ve never had a problem from them. Or at least I haven’t.

This wasn’t the way I was raised. Lord knows how my mother managed to stand washing 28 towels a week (4 people x 7 showers per week) while my brother and I were young…but I’ll certainyl not demand (or even suggest) it to my wife.

IMHO, a towel can be used for 3-4 days, on average, before an odor developes. I do the laundry duty in our household, and towels take up alot of space in the washer. You do what you have to do.

I keep using a towel till it seems noticeably dirty. That’s a lot longer than 3-4 days. But I do make sure they dry well by hanging them outside the bathroom (which is obviously one of the damper parts of the house) - maybe that odor is mildew from the towels staying too moist.

Laundering towels is a bitch because you can’t fit that many in a load. So I don’t wash mine any more than necessary.

If you wait even longer, you don’t have to hang them, you can dry them by standing them up in the corner.

I just make sure my towels are spread out as good as possible when they’re hung on the towel rack. I guess it does get mildewy (sp.) quickly being right beside the shower. Of course, it’s the wife that takes the steaming hot showers. I prefer mine just barely warm. I’m sure she causes most of the mildew issue.

Yeah, but it’s sometimes nice, despite the anal cleaning issues she seems to have, she \<i\>is\</i\> the mother of my beautiful daughter, so I can’t really complain. Let’s consider this thread officially closed, shall we, before us guys get into some trouble with out SO’s. Thanks, guys, for a good laugh.
