I didn’t even know Penn was married! :horrors!: I like CrimeFighter, it’s Moxie I’m not so sure about. Penn’s a New Englander and would have encoutered the nasty gentian soft drink before. No child should be named for soda the flavor of potting soil. ---

I love it. I have a weird enough middle name that teachers would skip over me when we played “so what’s everyone’s middle name” rather than subject me to teasing, and I love it now. Crimefighter would have been even better! Moxie is an awesome first name, too. Two thumbs up! ---

Penn is out of his mind, if that’s the kid’s real name. It’s as bad, or worse, than what Bill Lear, he of jet plane fame, named his oldest daughter, _Shanda_. ---

I think the name kicks ass. And I doubt the kids going to get that much grief over it. Her dad’s a celebrity, and while he probably doesn’t bring down the giant Hollywood-sized checks, he does strike me as a man who’s smart enough to manage his money well. Moxie’s either going to be homeschooled, or sent to a private school where half the kids will have wierder names than she does. Although bottomline is, I think the whole thing’s a joke. She’s probably really named “Mary Sue Jillette.” ---

And speaking of celebrities, why is it that these charmingly outsized personalities invariably\* choose to express their freewheeling iconoclasm through their _children’s_ names, instead of, oh, I dunno – doing a responsible thing, like petitioning a court for a radical name change for _themselves_? Bunch of glib, self-indulgent jerks, if you ask me. \*The Notable Exception Award going to The Artist Who Was Formerly Known As The Artist Who Was Formerly Known As Prince, of course, and an Estrogen Brigade’s worth of drag queens, performance artists, radical-fringe actors, and not a few others who have done the decent[!] thing and made an outrageous statement with their own public identities. ---

Like the most bitter herb ever grown gentian? Eeeeeeeeewwwww! And, uh, dumb name. But it’s not like she has to tell people her middle name: no one in our family knows my grandmother’s middle name. I suppose we’ll find out when she dies and we go through her paperwork, but not even her kids know it. (Her husband did, but he took the secret to his grave.) As for the first name, she’s going to be correcting people forever: “Maxxie? Macy? Roxie? Rosie? Maxine?” ---

could have been worse, could have gone into the school books as Jillette, The Best A Man Can Get. It’s not that hard to keep a middle name under wraps. Most people were surprised when, at my wedding, it turned out i was a closet ‘Alfred’ (which wasn’t the trendiest of names when I was at school (i’m 29 now)) ---

Eh. Middle names are nothing. Moxie, on the other hand, is a cool first name! Of course, she is going to be sick of all the jokes by the time she is 4, but what can you do? It’s still a cool name. ---
