They are pretty casual with their “experts”. They took the piss out of all those global warming believers using Bjorn Lomborg as an expert to refute their claims. Bjorn Lomborg was accused of scientific dishonesty for The Skeptical Environmentalist, and managed to beat the rap because, as the Danish Committees on Scientific Dishonesty put it, although it was scientifically dishonest, Lonborg was so ignorant on the subject he could hardly have been expected to know that.
The book that he, and Penn and Teller, used to disprove global warming, was cited for:
Fabrication of data;
Selective discarding of unwanted results (selective citation);
Deliberately misleading use of statistical methods;
Distorted interpretation of conclusions;
Plagiarism;
Deliberate misinterpretation of others’ results.
My experience with the show is that the more I know about the subject they are discussing the less likely I am to believe them.
Penn has long held that he would like to wrap up the series with an episode titled “The Bullshit About Bullshit” or some such. Essentially, this would be a full half-hour of fact checking, indicating where their research, in retrospect, was faulty.
There is a guy with the same first & last name as me who writes endlessly online about peak oil. It screws up my google results something fierce. I dont want people to associate me with that nonsense.
