I will have to watch the ad again, he was quick and I agree that the times didn’t quite match the hand placement.

But the guy on the show did show the face once. He had Simon adjust the stem blind, then showed him and us the time set. Our are you saying he should have displayed the face before setting it to suggest the time actually changed? Yes, that would have been a better effect. Maybe he thought it would be too obvious if the hands don’t actually change position.

> Okay, it may be a matter of very tight camera work, or maybe even cropping of the video. Right before it vanishes, the camera tilts down so that there is space between his hands and the bottom of the screen, presumably to eliminate any possibility of him simply dropping the bottle. Then he brings his hands together and the bottle “vanishes”. At this point we know (or at least think) that the bottle is pointing straight back with the top gripped in his right hand. Then he flips his left hand to reveal the deck.
>
> When he flips the hand there is a brief moment when there is no space between it and the bottom of the video frame. Maybe at that point he drops the bottle. Maybe it’s plastic or he drops it onto a pillow. This would require a number of takes to get it perfect or cropping the video exactly right, or maybe both.

I think this is right.

If you watch when he brings his left hand onto screen, it’s already cupped slightly, and he fidgits his gripping of the bottom of the bottle. He’s holding the final deck already.

Honestly, I’m open to a different explanation but I think this must be right. I can’t see any other moment in that video when he can invisibly get rid of that bottle, but there is that one brief moment when there is no space below his hands. Barring straight up photo manipulation, he must drop it at that moment.

I’m curious as to what explanation you would give. Post them in his comment section and see if he responds.

He also used to be active on magic cafe, a web site for discussing magic. I don’t know if he is still on there.

This is a trick they’ve done in the past. That’s why they were so excited about being fooled by it. The way Kimlat did it ruled out any of the ways that they know to do it.

Have you read the thread? You should go back up and click the link where Penn talks about their Today show trick and how this one still fooled them.

Which trick is better, folks? Shawn Farquhar’s or Kostya Kimlat’s? These are the two best trick’s I’ve seen on Fool Us. Here are the links:

[Kostya Kimlat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCFXV6o7cro)

[Shawn Farquhar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRpz0zuAGVs)

I know they see the deck swap in Farquhar’s trick, but I still think it is the more impressive trick. I still don’t have any idea how he does it and even though Ricky Jay does a trick that is nearly the same, apparently Farquhar developed a method only he knows to do it.

</div>

I think it Kimlat’s because his handling was more complex and done so smoothly. Also, Farquhar’s trick requires a gimmick, he can’t do it with just any box of cards, Kimlat doesn’t need that. However they are both very good, doing somewhat different things, other than my personal tastes there’s no way to objectively rate one higher than the other.

</div>

Farquhar’s trick had him (needlessly) making moves in and out of his jacket multiple times which immediately made me suspect a switch, even if I did not see exactly when it happened. With Kimlat, I could not spot any spurious moves. It was that cleanness that made it impressive.

Kimlat’s trick is the most impressive I’ve seen, but Matthieu Bich still had the best comeback to Penn and Teller’s guess ;).

Which one? Kimlat’s trick we presume is done through sorting of the cards and keeping card positions for a final maneuver at the end.

Farquhar’s I don’t exactly what he did, but he put that card back in the deck after the seal was broken or he has some gimmick to reseal the deck and he put it in before hand. I tend to think we see the original deck at the end, substituted after the seal was broken.

ETA: And if he did do the insert after the seal was broken then I would say he could do it with regular playing cards, I was hasty in saying that was not the case since I don’t know exactly what he did. However it might require gimmicking the box even then.
