What I don’t understand is how it would hurt morale. I mean, if _everybody’s_ horny and there’s some big orgy, then there isn’t anyone remaining to assume a superior attitude by setting himself apart and pointing a finger. ---

Ideally, you’re exactly right: Giving everyone a hot sex weekend would be a boost to morale. But if all or most of the soldiers think homosexuality is wrong and sinful, giving them lustful thoughts for their own companions would cause massive psychological harm and probably suicides. Or at least that’s what the people who allegedly dreamed up this device were probably thinking. ---
