Why is he waiting until right up against the deadline?
Is he trying to further pressure state party leaders to let him pick a successor, or is he hoping to claim a groundswell of support has emerged, leading him to announce that he’s changing his mind about dropping out?
I think he’s probably trying to extort money from the party. In any case, pretty in line with him being a piece of shit that belongs nowhere near office.

Wait, are you honestly asking for a source for people blaming the “establishment” for Platner’s demise? It’s everywhere. It’s in this thread. Platner himself said as much in his graceless, sulking “withdrawal” speech. (we have to put “withdrawal” in quotes because the piece of shit hasn’t actually filed the papers yet, he’s dragging it out and trying to make the exit wound as painful as possible, and still apparently trying to pick his “successor”).
And that fits with what anyone ought to have seen coming. A guy who commits domestic violence and sexts other women and gets a Nazi tattoo and waves it off without apologizing, just lies and lame excuses about PTSD, will do anything. Literally anything. And he’ll blame someone else for it, as he and his supporters are now doing.
Now ask yourself how this would’ve gone down had he actually gotten elected, and then the rape allegation came out, and then the Democrats asked him to step down. If you think this is a guy who would own his fuckups and do the gracious thing, you’re dreaming. He’d torch the Dems first. We still don’t know he’s actually going to drop out and support his replacement.
And that’s what some of us were saying all along - he could do anything once elected, because you simply do not know who this person is. Even after all this, I don’t think we’ve yet seen his shittiest depths.

Yes. Platner is one of those who’ve seen a path to Power as a Democrat via trashing Democrats.
(And, yes, via trashing Jewish people as being The Democratic Establishment.) This ugliness is guaranteed to keep Republicans in charge, among other unpleasant things. It’s an inherently unprincipled tactic. And Platner is its poster child.
Either is possible, but I’d bet (if there were a way) that he’s still fantasizing about being handed a seat in the US Senate.

It’s not “everywhere” in this thread, it’s a single, named posted who others have spent endless hours arguing against. What’s the claim here? That at least one person on every social media platform believes this? Then yes, for any single possible belief, you can find a single person on the internet believing it.
That there’s a named, influential contingent of people who believe Platner’s “I was set up but I’m dropping out anyway”, that simply does not exist. And anytime someone else is telling you what is “all over” social media that you don’t bother to check yourself, you should question why that source is interested in pushing this agenda.

I’m sure the Maine Secretary of State’s office was most impressed by Platner’s self-martyrdom statement, excuse me, official notification letter that he is withdrawing from the race.
That’s…not so bad? I mean, people did vote for all those things, a lot more than they were voting for him as a person. He didn’t say anything about himself in the letter, which is 100x better than his video address.
