As a Floridian who spent a decent amount of time driving on the 5 and the 405, I agree with this sentiment. And I do spent a lot of time on US-19, I-275, Veterans expressway, and the Causeway. Five days a week, in fact. The problem is not that people are too busy to turn on their turn signals because of their cell phones, it’s because they’re lazy motherfuckers that don’t care that they’re being incredibly rude and potentially dangerous.
They’re just lazy.
At least when the drivers in LA cut you off they were going fast enough to get the fuck out of the way before I could get pissed off.
As a Californian I have to agree, Floridians are the worse drivers I’ve ever encountered. They are bad in every way. Some drive slow in the fast lane, some aggressively tailgate you in the slow lane, some drive 90mph in monsoon downpours, and some drive across construction zones to cut past merging lanes. I think it’s a combination of NASCAR mentality, old people and new immigrants who don’t know how to drive. It’s telling that the freeways have to tell you a minimum speed on the freeway.
Well, I lived in California for several years; I survived LA and the San Francisco Bay area so I guess ladyfoxfyre and I are qualified survivors and fit to drive in Florida. But we do have to share the roads with a bunch of certifiable folk.
Huh, I missed this thread the first time around. I actually started a similar (but not Pit-worthy) thread a couple of years ago, as this is my biggest driving pet peeve. I wanted to commend bearflag for owning up and having a civil discussion about it. No one came forward as an offender in my own thread.
The behavior that pissed me off the most (and seems to happen most often, oddly enough) on the streets of LA is that someone will be in the right-hand lane, cut me off in the left-hand lane without signalling and THEN signal once they’ve gotten over to the left-turn lane at a light. So, you couldn’t signal when I actually needed to know, but once it’s completely OBVIOUS where you’re going, NOW you can signal? Assholes.
