But what struck me about his post… well, I’m not a gambler, too risk aversive. But slot machines in particular have always struck me as an excruciatingly boring way to spend time. Like volunteering to be the rat in one of those Skinner box experiments where you train the rat to press the lever up to twenty times to get a single pellet of rat chow. And not only volunteer, PAY MONEY to be the rat. Anyway, I thought that would be the height of boredom, doing that for hours. But I was wrong. _Watching OTHER PEOPLE do it for hours plumbs new depths._ ArrogantBastard, is that really how you want to spend your time? ---

I mean, I thought so too, until I actually did it. But it’s pretty damned addictive, especially if you have a nice machine. ---

Actually, that’s a “if I ever win the lottery fantasy” of mine, to go to a casino for a week and watch people gamble. I have an odd fascination with watching people’s faces when they are wholly concentrating on something - it’s strangely soothing. I watch a lot of videos of blacksmiths, tailors and luthiers, on YouTube, for just this reason. But I’ll admit that it’s a bit weird. ---
