I’d say that if you want to have minimal interactions with a specific subset of the population, it’s fair to say that you hate them, or at least have a major dislike for them.

I get where the OP is going, but obviously he didn’t help his cause with comments like this one: “Those childless-by-choice folk who bitch and moan incessantly about children, who tirelessly support their great ‘decision’ need to realize that they are just a bunch of spectators sitting life out in favor of a less risky, less traumatic, less valuable, less human experience.” I understand that he’s just complaining about those childless people who complain everytime they are exposed to children not acting exactly like an adult would, and who sometimes even seem to preemptively expect bad behaviour as soon as they see a young person, but it’s hard for every childless person (of which I am one) not to feel like he’s denying that our life has value. So this wasn’t a wise thing to say. But again, I do understand what the OP is trying to say.

Somehow I am reminded of Stewie Griffin taking a plane and deciding to scream and kick the seat of the passenger in front of him for the whole flight after this passenger preemptively complains about Stewie’s presence. “I was just going to watch the movie, but now you’re my bitch!” 😉

There is no doubt that the OP has a valid point - plenty of bitter child-haters on this website.

Well hmmm…I suppose you may have a point. But if any of these “child haters” was in the presence of a friend’s or neighbor’s kid, I think it would be safe to assume they wouldn’t be rude to them or teach them how to plug keys into electrical sockets or stick their hand in scalding water. They will think their hour or afternoon sucked, and they will wish a babysitter bus would come and get them all, but they will most likely be polite and civil to them. That’s not “hate” to me. It’s no-please-don’t-wreck-my-saturday-with-your-incessant-whining.

> Oh I agree, very true. But I don’t bring my dogs to Wal-Mart and force other people have to put up with their squealing and bawling and sticky hands. .

This is a pretty good example of folks walking around in the world with a total lack of any clue about what others are experiencing.

If you have a young child and have to get something at Wal-Mart - what, exactly, are you supposed to do other than shlepp them inside with you?

Unlike your dog, it’s generally not OK to lock your child in a crate or laundry room in your absence. Ditto alone in your car with the window cracked. And, believe me, slapping duct tape over their mouths and around their wrists while shopping does prevent the sticky hands and squealing that so annoys the other customers, but it brings about its own set of problems.

I suppose you could hire a baby sitter, make a bunch of separate trips to run your errands, or, assuming there is another adult in the house, wait until that person is home to watch the children and go shopping in the wee hours of the night. But why should a parent’s life be so inconvenienced just so somebody who doesn’t like kids won’t have to bear the suffering brought about by listening to them and looking at them in a freaking Wal-Mart.

I can deal with children being seen and not heard. If the kid is screaming, take them out to your car and let them scream there, then come back when they’re done. I don’t think they should have to come out at 3 AM to get groceries, but I also don’t think they should be so inconsiderate as to subject an entire store full of people to their three year old’s tantrum. I’m perfectly aware of what other people are experiencing, but\* I don’t give a damn\*. You chose to have children, the burden is on you to prevent those children from inconveniencing the rest of society. If I had a kid, I’d still feel the same way, and I’d hold myself to that standard.

Also, in my area you can be fined up to $2,000 and spend 90 days in jail for leaving your dog in your car, even with the window cracked, even in the middle of winter.

Because they made the choice to have kids, knowing very well having kids is a huge burden & responsibility. We don’t have the power to erase your kids from our life, but you do. And by choosing to inconvenience us by bringing the rugrats wherever you go, even though you realize they may not behave themselves and may annoy a lot of people ; rather than inconveniencing yourself, you’re being a selfish jerk.

And it’s not just about “people who hate kids” : your not-quite-socially-acceptable-yet kids will probably annoy _everyone_. Even though they won’t have the heart to tell you, and even though they may grin and bear it because they know how it is. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. Note however that this doesn’t apply unilateraly to all parents who dare bringing their kids out, either. In truth, the grand majority of parent+kids combo one encounters in the wild are perfectly tolerable, even to this rabidly antisocial jerk. And then there’s \*those \*assholes.

The ones who’ll let their kid yell and kick in the train or on the plane or at the movies, for hours on end, never ever lifting a finger to stop them. The ones who’ll smile their annoying little “well, what am I supposed to do ? :)” smile whenever Junior smears chocolate on every piece of clear glass in the store, or makes a whole shelf of stuff collapse, and so on and so forth.

I’m not sure, it’s posted on a sign downtown. I know someone who knows someone who had to pay the fine, but I don’t know of anyone who did any jail time.

Well said. My wife and I have no children because A) I’m still in the Army and B) I don’t want the responsibility of raising them. Neither does my wife. Oh, we like non-demon children well enough, we just don’t want our own. We talk about adopting maybe when I retire, but again…I’m not a big fan of being around children for long periods of time. Thanks **Gfactor** , that was fast! I’m in Alabama, and it looks like the law in question isn’t a state law but a local ordinance. My city’s website page of local ordinances says “This information coming soon!” so next time I pass by the courthouse I’m going to see if I can’t get a copy of it. For all I know the sign could be outdated or just a scare tactic.

Didn’t mean to hijack, by the way. Back to the child hating!
