To be fair it kind of pisses me off as well, I also hate the oft used ‘well you don’t _have_ to post here’ when used in response to a complaint…I fucking know I don’t _have_ to but I choose to and I also choose to say what pisses me off. When it comes to stupid responses this one takes the cake then devours it with gluttonous glee. While we are on the subject ‘SO’ (as in significant other) pisses me off as well - I don’t really know why, it just does…so there. ---

I think people just prefer not to use their spouse’s name. They don’t necessarily think it’s funny anymore, just handy. ---

Well, if I’m not to call him \*\*Mr Cazzle \*\* because you don’t like it, and I’m not to refer to him as my **SO** because someone else doesn’t like that, and I’m not to refer to him by name or as **DH** (Dear Husband, as per another board) because he doesn’t like that… then what am I supposed to call him? I suppose I could just call him by his SDMB user name, which is… **Mr Cazzle**. ---

I actually prefer it. It means I don’t have to look back through old threads or have seen one particular member around quite a bit to know who they’re talking about. I think it’s great that some of you guys call each other by first name, but I just don’t know people on the board at a personal level (maybe the Bamadope with change that!) so if you refer to “Robert” instead of **Mr. Poster That Lives To Get on Carnick’s Last Nerve** I may not know who you’re talking about. And I call my kid Rez, Jr. Yes, he’s a boy and I’m a girl. No, he’s not really a junior. But I’m never going to have a junior so live with it. Nyah. 🙂 ---

I like it. Most people are not going to use their SO’s real name for the same reasons they don’t use their own, and even if they did use a real name they would have to explain who this guy named Steve is in relation to them. I dislike calling people “my SO” or “my husband” repeatedly because I think it makes sentence construction awkward, especially if referring to a relative of theirs (i.e. my SO’s younger brother went out for dinner). I also think it’s entertaining when people construct custom phrases (not Mr./Ms. screename) based on the characteristics of their screename. For instance, many of the users here with wolf/bear/dog/cat in their screenames refer to offspring as pups/cubs/kittens. I refer to my SO as **mischief-lover** , which makes sense on more than one level. I know I’ve seen many partner-adapted variants on screenames more clever than these. mischievous ---

I only started doing it because everyone else was doing it and I do find it handy. I also refer to my son as pre-school Caricci. Next year he’ll be kindergarten Caricci and, you know, so forth. It suits me better than dh anyway. ---

Lady Chance and Baby Kate Chance are currently pointing their fingers and mocking you. Though at Weirddave and Ginger’s wedding (her first real chance to meet Dopers) she kept introducing herself as ‘Mrs Chance’ only to be continually corrected to ‘Lady Chance’. heh heh heh ---

Although Mr./Mrs. (screenname) is a useful and mildly jocular way to refer to a spouse, I must say I hate **flodnak** with incredible jealousy for having been the first to get to **fella belong missus flodnak**. ---

What sobriquet should I use for Skutirette? She’s not my spouse. I use “girlfriend” from time to time, but keerisakes, we’re in our mid 30’s, and despite her affection for stuffed duckies, she’s not a girl anymore. “Lady friend” sounds positively middle aged. “Other of increasing significance,” is cumbersome, and “SO” makes me sound defensive… I always imagine that allcapped epithet accompanied by hands on hips and thrust jaw. “Friend” is too casual, and “partner” makes me think of law firms. ---
