The fact that he hasn’t dedicated a statue yet is really only proof that he’s holding off until after the election when he can let his true feelings be known.
Can I just take this moment to brag that I was at Keene yesterday and saw the President speak? He was late, but it was a phenomenal speech he gave-- it brought many in the audience to tears, including many of the older UFW members who had marched with Cesar.
A great and inspirational day all around, if I may say so myself.
I’m of the opinion it was pretty clever to mark Columbus Day by a dedication honoring a Mestizo Mexican American.
Several people were actually discussing this at the event yesterday. I thought it was a fantastic and subtle way to make right on that day.
And Moonlitherial? There is no statue. They turned the grounds of La Paz into a National Monument-- his house, the offices, etc.
That makes it even worse. Our country faces a host of serious problems, and Obama wastes a day praising a retired welterweight?! A good sneeze would knock a fellowlike that down!
I’m not really clear on why the President felt the need to honor an ancient warmongering Roman dictator in the first place, honestly.
And if he really wanted to honor him, why not just eat his salad? So much easier!
See? This is bullshit. Obama refuses to enforce illegal immigration. He has illegals sitting mere feet from him and he refused to deport their law-breaking asses. And on top of that he even feeds them Ceaser salad. Unfucking-believable.
That’s because they don’t know what Cesar Chavez looks like.
You are correct sir!
I don’t blame them. It’s impossible to tell them apart!
Stupid people. Everyone knows it was a statue to honor Hugo Weaving.
What? Really? Cesar Chavez? The head ape from Planet of the Apes? Why would they… Labor leader? But what does a fictional ape have to do with… Oh, Latino.
Nevermind. Carry on.
They probably wouldn’t mind a statue of Hugo Weaving. Aren’t they all about shutting down government?
In much of Latin America, Columbus Day is celebrated (or commemorated) as El Día de la Raza–The Day of The Race. It started as a day to celebrate Spanish heritage & has evolved to recognize the mixture of peoples that began on that day–for better or for worse. In the USA, it’s the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15th, on or about the date in 1821 when most Latin American nations declared their independence from Spain.
This information is coming to you from a Red State. I can’t speak for the inbreds in Alabama, Mississippi, etc.–but Texas has some knowledge of these matters. Not everybody in this Red State is a white idiot–we’ve got Hispanics/Latinos/Tejanos, blacks, smart whites, etc. We’re still outnumbered by the eejits. For now…
Many Californians know their Chavezes–but not every Blue State resident does.
(I know one gentleman who marched with Cesar Chavez in his youth. And I know a couple of *Venezolanas *who would probably have rude things to say about Hugo–if I asked.)
Cool, Bridget Burke. I’ve been a red stater and a blue stater (currently in a reddish purple part of blue Illinois), but I remember learning and reading about Chavez, nonviolence and Gandhi all about the same time as a kid. Probably around 1969/70/71. As it happens, I lived in Texas at the time.
Oh, bummer.
:
I have a friend who was convinced that Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson were the same person, something that now we will never be able to clear up.
Why would Obama commemorate a statue of Che Guevera?
Che was also born in Kenya.
And died in Venezuela.
Although he was recently sighted in the company of Elvis, in Hackensack, New Jersey.
