Heres is a [list](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_living_centenarians)of living centenarians on Wikipedia. I admit I haven’t heard of most of them but the one that did surprise me was Giap, the Vietnamese general. ---

Kirk Douglas was in the news for something or other (nothing terribly important, at least not important enough to remember what it was about) and I was astonished that he was still alive. I thought he’d died years ago. I think I may have been confusing him with Lloyd Bridges. Surely he’s not still alive. ---

When the actor playing Goober Pyle died, I was surprised to hear that Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) was still alive. I could have sworn he died years ago. ---
