Alton Brown, in his _Gear_ book, tells of his high-speed pepper gun. When he has to grind a whole lot of pepper, he takes the top off a cheapo mill, and he chucks the shaft into an electric drill. Pull the trigger, and you can pepper several huge pots of stew in seconds. 🆒

Another fan of the MagnumPlus. One quibble is with the rotating sleeve that covers the fill hole - it’s not hard to spin it open while grinding, and if the grinder’s chock-full of peppercorns, some might fall out. Beyond that, it delivers a nice grind and a sizeable amount of pepper with each twist.

And chucking a cheap mill on an electric drill? That’s \*so \* Alton.

I’ve been browsing around for a grinder myself. I caught an episode of “America’s Test Kitchen” a little bit ago, and they also gave a big thumbs up to the Magnum plus. High peppercorn capacity, a good grind, and faster output production than every other one tested (including the electric grinders). They’re only complaint was that it was ugly, but I kind of like the “2001 Monolith” look of it.

[QUOTE=AskNott]
We have a Chef’n pepper mill. It’s a one-handed mill, which can be very useful when one hand is gooey or holding something. It adjusts from coarse to fine. It looks like a clear plastic sphere with a pair of plier handles sticking out the top. You squeeze the handles together to make it work.

[QUOTE]
I have something like this — I got it for the same reason you mention, the one-handed operation, plus the fact that it has a magnet on it so you can stick it to the fridge — and it turns out not to work very well. Maybe it’s a cheap version of the one you’re talking about, but after a few minutes of frustration I gave up on it. I’d go get my money back except it was like three bucks and not worth the trouble.

Ditto here. I enjoy the occasional big spicy bit, which the fine grind doesn’t provide.

DAMN YOU, you DAMN DIRTY APE!

No, really honey, I’m just trying to be funny and all - just joking. Put the rolling pin down and relax. You’re really not a damn dirty ape. You’re a clean ape - a VERY clean ape - and you’re a cute one at that.
