Still common in Africa, though. And it’s still done in Egypt, arguably one of the most progressive nations in both the African continent and the Arabic world, but now they do it with high-tech medical equipment. :rolleyes:

They busted an OBGYN here in the States for doing that shit to women. He was _not_ some third world doctor who’d moved here, either. Just a sick bastard who got his kicks doing what he called “love surgery” on women who’d just had a kid and worried about being “snug” enough for their husband.

I read about something like that years and years ago-a woman had a hysterectomy, and afterwards, kept having all these problems-excruciating pain during intercourse, bladder infections, etc. It turns out, the doctor used her as a guinea pig for what he called “love surgery”, where he claimed he reconstructed a woman’s genitals to enable her to have orgasms easier. She never knew until he started advertising for his surgery and then was sued for malpractice. It was in _Good Housekeeping_, or maybe _Redbook_, IIRC.

I saw an interview with one of his victims who said she had no idea of what had been done to her, until she went to a gyncologist because of pain during intercourse and he told her that she’d been circumcised, to which she responded, “I don’t have the right kind of equipment for that.” I hope that they were able to do some kind of restorative surgery for her.
