> Another reason not to take the leap to citizenship in some countries might be a reluctance to pledge even nominal allegiance to a monarch. Myself, I’m a strong anti-royalist, and that would grate on me even if it were a monarch I actually liked such as Queen Elizabeth.

[There have been some attempts in Canada by republicans to challenge the Oath of Citizenship, which includes a statement of allegiance to the Queen of Canada, but they have been unsuccessful, being dismissed by the courts.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oath_of_Citizenship_(Canada)#Public_action) Plaintiffs have included permanent residents who had refused to apply for citizenship because of the Oath.

I’m a long time permanent resident of Australia but have not become a citizen because I don’t feel like an Australian. I live here because ailing / aging relatives rely on me. If not for that I would go back to the UK.

theres nothing wrong of becoming a citizen of another country … ( it has its pros and cons )

some countries, like germany and austria only accepts one nationality, theirs. you would have to renounce your citizenship of that other country … =/
