It’s true that science is always a bit provisional, but if the amusing surprise turns out to be that the laws of thermodynamics are more like guidelines than actual laws, then there are a heck of a lot of other things that not only need rewriting from scratch, but an explanation needs to be found to account for why they have always behaved as if the laws of thermodynamics are right.
