Mine is “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra…I even have a whole dance routine for when I am REALLY stressed. Also, “Flagpole Sitta” by Harvey Danger works well when I am angry. If I am in a good mood, I hear “I Just Wanna Make Love To You” by Etta James or “I’ll Melt With You” by Modern English. Sometimes, however, only the opening strains of "Let’s Get It On"arvin Gaye will do. ---

My personal theme song tends to change with my mood. For the past two months, the songs have mostly been rather depressing or uplifting f\*\*k you sorts of songs: Wicked Game by Chris Isaak I’m Still Standing by Elton John I Try by Macy Gray Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night by Bon Jovi Kiss Off by the Violent Femmes (I take one, one, one 'cause you left me and two, two, two for my family, and three, three, three for my heartache, and four, four, four for my headaches and five, five, five for my loneliness, six, six, six for my sorrow, seven, seven, for no tomorrow, and eight, eight, I forget what eight is for, nine, nine, nine for the lost time, and ten, ten, ten, ten, for everything, everthing, everything, everything! God I love that song.) Add it Up, also by the Violent Femmes (Going to the concert tomorrow!) Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd Lonely Holiday by the Old 97’s oh yeah…and that They’re Coming to Take Me Away song…can’t remember the artist, but it fits much of the time. ---

Actually, I think that it’s the other way around for me. I hear music and then see my life at that moment through the eyes of an audience watching my life as a movie. I went on a road trip last March and at some point along the way, we had the windows down, the music blaring as we made our way across Montana. It was an awesome moment, and ofr the life of me I can’t remember what the song was that was playing. I saw the camera pull away from the car and watch it drive down the highway, music playing, credits rolling.
