plate on a guy who saved me a ticket… I was late, I was speeding, and I just passed a cop behind a stone overpass. I saw his lights come on, and just then a new z-28 blew past me. Vanity plate “LEADFOOT” Trooper took him. ---

I remember seeing this one right about the time vanity plates became so popular (I think around the late 80’s, early 90’s): BLDMNKY Bald monkey? It was on the back of a black Cadillac Seville, and a very blonde woman was driving. I thought it was quite hilarious, but a little TMI. ---

I’m sure there are dozens that I’m not remembering right now, but as they come back to me I’ll add them to the thread. For now: On a 70’s era Mustang: SHLONG _I can’t imagine how he explained that one._ I don’t remember what the car was, but I distinctly recall a tag that said: LBCAKE (poundcake) Shouldabeen: We used to have a big red Ford truck where I work, that everyone always referred to as Robert (Robert Redford). The company never would spring for a tag though. ---

So, I saw this on the NJ Turnpike, which is heavily patroled and has a STRONG reputation for having cops who indulge in “racial profiling”. Black man, driving something annoyingly expensive, at (I’m guesstimating) well over 100mph, with a Florida plate (a state known for importing guns and drugs into the NY area) that says COCOKISS. In case the police missed the fact that the driver was black. I figured it had to be a sting operation - I mean no one would be that stupid, would they? BTW - the above is NOT meant to suggest that all, or even the majority, of NJ police are racist, or that being a black male driver is “asking for it”. But if you’re black and in an area that’s made NATIONAL news for profiling, it seems smart to do the speed limit. ---

Also, my mother has a plate that says “MAUDE”, because she named her car after the movie “Harold and Maude”. It’s amazing how many people go up to her and address her as “Maude”. ---

I have had two vanity plates: On my 1986 Pontiac Parisseian (sp?) station wagon that ran on 7 (of 8) cylindars: HILNDR My nickname at work was Highlander, and my boss gave me the money to get the plate for my birthday. On my 1979 Camero was: DOT\*COM I bought the car from earnings from my web design company. 🙂 ---

On my hotsy totsy Nissa Quest, **STEDICAM**. ( It’s spelled Steadicam, but you can only cram 8 symbols onto a NYS license plate ). Neighbor is Hispanice, and has **SPEYES**. Sound guy in the city has \*\* ROOMTONE\*\* Seen in NJ- **BDA BNG** NY is switching to new plate designs. I can’t imagine surrendering these plates, I might have to declare one “stolen” so I can keep the other one as a souvenir.
