When I lived in Kansas, I had **MTBIKER**. I’ve always wanted to have **3M TA3** just for the front. ---

I prefer to remain relatively anonymous on the road, so I’ve never had the desire to get a personalized number. A nice, hard-to-remember alphanumeric string suits me just fine. 🙂 But, I still admire cleverness in others’ choices. I once saw a plate that read **UCFAUYA**. Think pig latin. ---

kid I worked with bought an MG from a mutual friend. He promptly ordered vanity plates. About 2 weeks later, he wrecked the car doing 60 late at night. He survived, but the car was mangled. The next day his vanity tags arrived. **1BAD MG** When I bought my first TR-7 I considered the tag thing. (Couldn’t afford the extra cash - go figure) I considered: **Spritles7** (my real name would fit) but I wanted to remain anonymous. I reeeeeeally thought about: **UV 081** This would be better, of course, on the front bumper. 😃 Maybe I’ll just get random letters to boggle some minds. Something like: **BKLTQFG** or something. 10QBDBD Much, Spritle ---

For the record, a FOAF tried to get 3M TA3…the Virginia DMV apparently has that flagged as “You’re out of your mind if you think we’re letting you get away with that.” A few years ago I had TLPCASM - “This license plate contains a Satanic message.” Then I had TCNOHOR…“Technowhore.” Those plates are still sitting on my now-defunct Honda (which died on the way to a Dopefest…the things I do for you people!). (And by the way…anyone got a spare 1985 Honda Accord transmission lying around?) I want to get personalized plates again - they’re cheap as dirt in Virginia. This time I want to get HMADRYD. Hell, my handle’s old enough to drive, I figure it deserves a license plate, right? A truck up the street has BYTE MOI. I wonder how **moi** would feel about that. 😃 And to close…big CONGRATS to **Zette** for lucking out on that plate. Woo hah! ---

In missouri, they just ruled that you can have offensive plates that dont contain profanity. This allows some Uber-loser in Jeff City to keep his “Aryan 1” license plates. ---

If you think about the purpose of license plates (for the police or fellow drivers to track you down and get you in trouble for driving violations), why would you want a plate that is easy to memorize? ---

Well, Dave- I don’t violate traffic laws, so I don’t care if the cops know my plates. Easy enough! Besides, I can’t see speeding down the road in my Pathfinder and 1973 Coleman Pop-up. The thing is like dragging a house. Zette ---

Years ago I saw a New York plate that read, as best I can recall: QQOQQOQO The only “meaning” I could think of was that the owner had intentionallly selected a plate that would be difficult to read and remember. Anyone seen anything similar, or have an alternate explanation for that one? ---

I have a personalized plate. It’s actually for my husband, but I drive the car. It reads 3DS MAX for 3D Studio Max, a 3-D animation software program he worked on. It does give me pause sometimes to have an easily-recognized plate. I mean, not so many people know what it refers to, but it does make one’s car stand out in ways that might work to your detriment at times. ---
