Note: this thread is not aimed at vegans or vegetarians in general. 😉 Apparently PETA wants a Minnesota high school to change the name of its sports teams. Most tomatoes are killed by being hung from their vines and slit open. Sometimes, before canning, they are mercilessly pulverized into a liquid paste. No, naming a football team after the monsters who perform these atrocities would be just as horrible. ---

Hehehe. As a vegetarian, lemme just say this is the most idiotic thing I’ve heard of. Slight highjack: In the Dallas area there is a high school known as the Frisco Fightin’ Coons. Their mascot is indeed a mean-looking racoon. For those who don’t know, coon is also a derogatory term similar to the “N” word, used primarily in the south. The school’s been called that for many years, and I seriously doubt that anyone really thought they we’re calling themselves the Fightin’ “N” words. Even if (especially if) every person in Frisco were card-carrying KKK members, why would they call themselves by a racial slur? Politically correct uproar ensued a few months ago about the name. Dunno whatever became of it. I just think it’s interesting that many of the kids interviewed for the news had never heard coon used as a derogatory term. Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Politically Correct. You have just taught our children another ethic slur! ---

You know, there’s a lot of good things that PETA could be doing. There’s a hell of a lot of animals out there that are being mistreated, puppy farms that are creating real-life houses of horror, dubious “experiments” that exist largely to keep grants alive, habitat disappearing, and valid arguments to be made for vegetarianism (although I’m not one and not likely to become one)… and they **WASTE THEIR TIME WITH THIS PATHETIC SHIT?** This is the exact same kind of inconsequential shit that kneecapped the left and turned them into pathetic “identity warriors” throughout the 80’s and 90’s. As if the left doesn’t have better things to do. As if PETA doesn’t. As if the rest of us don’t. ---
