If her motives were pure, she’d be asking for a [sky burial](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_burial). well if she weren’t a complete fucking idiot she’d understand the difference between “killing animals” and “NOT killing animals.” PETA regularly protests in LA to get the humane society to stop killing any of the animals it saves (the ones that have to be put down for whatever reason, usually due to lack of available homes or due to illness) while PETA itself does the same damn thing with the animals they save. Not to mention many PETA members use medicines created from the same process of animal testing they vehemently and, in many cases VIOLENTLY, protest against. Slight hypocrisy there, if you ask me ---

Honestly, I have to disagree; I think that, for PETA, it’s a surprisingly nuanced and effective effort at satire. After all, these are the people who generally think they’re making a point just by posting pictures of beef cattle and Holocaust victims side-by-side. There aren’t very many activist groups out there for which a plan of mailing out human remains could be described as uncharacteristically subtle, but there it is. You can tell Ms. Newkirk’s heart isn’t really into it, though (so to speak). She specifies that one of her eyes should be sent out to the EPA, but then can’t be bothered to think of anybody who deserves the other eye. That’s just pure laziness right there. What, there’s no one else on Earth that PETA wants to “keep an eye on?” I bet anything that this will gimmick was somebody else’s idea, and they had to keep egging her on to finish the thing. The suggestion that they make a plaque with her attached thumb in an approving gesture, and send it out to whoever PETA thinks has done the most to benefit animals, I interpret as a _de facto_ admission that PETA doesn’t really think other animal rights groups value their support all that much. “If we think you’ve really contributed toward the struggle, we’ll reward you with a dried chunk of our dead founder!” I think most other groups would take the prospect of such attention as an incentive not to try too hard. I like the photo at the top of the page: “Is there any way you could look more smug, Ingrid? No, smugger than that… Come on, think harder about how wonderful you are.” ---

Newkirk’s lifelong opposition to animal testing is due to a little known fact - she is actually an exceptionally talented horse, and daughter of small-screen legend Mr. Ed. Those who find this difficult to believe are encouraged to read some of her quotes, then ask themselves if any genuine human being could possibly be as dumb as she is. Also, look at that picture. Don’t you just want to give her a carrot? ---

Ingrid, Ingrid, Ingrid. I’ve seen dead people, I’ve seen chopped up dead people, I’ve seen pickled dead people. I’ve seen a pickled human liver, and guess what, I still like foie gras. I get we’re all made of skin and flesh and organs, I just don’t think animals deserve the same rights as people. I think animals deserve to live and die humanely and with as little suffering as possible, but I’m still going to eat them and wear leather- looking at bits of you won’t change that. If you really wnat to prevent the suffering of animals- offer yourself as a test subject for medical research when you might actually do some good. Idiot. ---

I agree. As a campaign, it seems highly effective. We ARE talking about it, here, aren’t we? And it is cheap. Setting up such a website costs virtually nothing, and from there, the meme goes viral, at no publicity costs. And you can say what you want, but in this campaign, she keeps to herself. No spray-painting fur coats or damaging research labs. If I were PETA’s publicity worker, and responsible for this idea, I’d be proud of a damn fine job.
